Daegu raw beef restaurant with mungtigi: Chulgeungil Saenggogi
In short
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch is a raw-beef restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu. I tried its 59,000 won half-and-half platter of Gyeongsang-style mungtigi and brisket sashimi, plus generous banchan. The chewy mungtigi was the clear winner.

I visited Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch, a great spot in Daegu Jongno for mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) and a shot of soju 💨💨 When you think of Daegu, you think of mungtigi, right?! This time, instead of having mungtigi alone, I ordered a half-and-half platter that also came with brisket sashimi! I was happy because there were so many kinds of mungtigi, too ~~~

A raw-beef restaurant tucked into a Daegu Jongno alley
It is in Daegu Jongno's restaurant alley, so it was not difficult to find!

The banchan (Korean side dishes) are so generous that it seems good for either your first stop or your second stop of the night ❣️ We came here as our second stop on a Friday night, haha.

Cherry-blossom décor and an open-front outdoor-table feel
The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the bright cherry-blossom décor 🌸🌸🌸 Most raw-beef places have an old-school or rugged feel, but this one was bright—perfect for a date! When I visited, the weather had gotten fairly cool, so they had the doors wide open 🌀 The seats by the entrance had almost an outdoor pocha-like vibe, which I loved even more!!!

With Daegu Jongno's signature bustling atmosphere on top of that, it looked like a nice place to come for drinks with friends, too.

Three kinds of mungtigi and a half-and-half platter
The menu is packed with raw-beef dishes! What is especially interesting is that there are no fewer than three kinds of mungtigi: Gyeongsang mungtigi, Jeolla mungtigi, and jeonggak mungtigi ✨

Gyeongsang-style mungtigi & brisket sashimi, half and half
✔️ Gyeongsang-style mungtigi & brisket sashimi (medium) ₩59,000 The Gyeongsang-style mungtigi and brisket sashimi arrived together on one platter, half and half like this! If you would be sad to order just one dish, I recommend getting it half and half so you can try both.

From banchan to liver and tripe
Once you order the main dish, a whole spread of banchan comes out! Rather than serving only the raw beef, they bring sides that work perfectly as both a meal and drinking snacks, so I was even more satisfied. Raw beef is naturally a higher-priced menu item, so ₩59,000 did not feel cheap at first. But with this much banchan laid out, it seemed reasonable as a menu for drinks 💖 Just look at how fresh it is..!!!!!

And it even came with gan (raw beef liver) and cheonyeop (raw omasum tripe)—that alone is enough to keep pouring down soju, hahaha.

The chewy mungtigi was my top pick
You could really feel mungtigi's signature chewy texture, and the more I chewed, the more its nutty flavor and springy bite came through—definitely a taste raw-beef lovers will enjoy! I already tend to love mungtigi, but it was my no-question top pick of everything we ate that day. The thinly sliced brisket sashimi had a distinctly different nutty flavor and a tender texture from the mungtigi! For my taste, though, I preferred the chewy, bouncy texture and savory flavor of the mungtigi dipped deeply in makjang (soybean dipping sauce). Still, being able to alternate between the two on one platter meant I never got tired of it and could enjoy every last bite ~!!! Next time, I want to try another kind of mungtigi, haha. If you are trying raw beef for the first time on a trip to Daegu, or looking for a place in Jongno to have soju with friends, Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch could be a good stop. Especially on lovely days like these, try a seat by the wide-open entrance for that outdoor-table atmosphere, too ෆ
