Nowon Korean restaurant for bossam set meals: Hantiok

In short

Hantiok is a Korean restaurant on the ninth-floor dining level of Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch in Nowon, Seoul. Uncle Jam and I tried the bossam set meal, including pork, Andong gukbap broth, dumplings, handmade tofu, and Andong guksu noodles. Verdict: a great fit for a warm, gently seasoned meal after shopping.

When you’re craving a warm meal at Lotte Department Store Nowon

Today, Jam Unnie is going to tell you about a delicious lunch at Lotte Department Store Nowon! We had lunch at Hantiok (한티옥) before going for coffee at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roastery.

When you have plans near Nowon Station or are shopping at Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch, deciding what to eat is surprisingly tricky. A quick bite is nice too, but this was one of those days when I wanted a proper meal of rice with warm broth rather than something heavily seasoned.

Hantiok is a Korean restaurant in the ninth-floor dining area of Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch, so it is easy to get to while shopping. It also seemed to have a nice atmosphere for a family meal or dining with your parents.

Inside, everything felt clean and orderly, making it a comfortable place to eat. And of course, Uncle Jam was with me again today.

A broad Korean menu, from single dishes to set meals

Korean beef ugeoji gukbap (rice soup with cabbage greens), chogye guksu (chilled chicken noodle soup), and brisket gukbap are à la carte dishes, but each makes a satisfying meal. Hantiok in particular has a wide range of Korean dishes, including Andong guksu, Andong gukbap, bossam (boiled pork wraps), spicy pork ssambap, and Korean beef radish rice, so there were plenty of choices.

If you are visiting with several people, choosing a set meal seems like a good idea too. Uncle Jam and I absolutely ordered the bossam set meal. Grilled meat is delicious too, but Uncle Jam likes boiled meat, so bossam set meal it was!!

What came with the bossam set meal

The basic side dishes included salad, perilla-leaf kimchi, lettuce wraps, and pickled gungchae stems. The great thing about ordering a set meal is that you can taste several dishes at once instead of having only one!!

The lettuce salad topped with sesame dressing—yes, it was exactly the familiar taste we all know.

Here is the bossam from the set meal. It was so good with the seasoned shredded radish!! The pork had no unpleasant smell and was delicious. That crunchy shredded radish was tasty too.

The mild, warming Andong gukbap broth

The soup that comes with an order of Andong gukbap is included too. If you want a simple bowl of gukbap or guksu on your own, order à la carte; if you visit with several people, a set meal or bossam order lets you eat more generously.

Hantiok’s signature Andong guksu uses broth made with Korean beef brisket, so it seemed like the perfect choice on a day when you crave something warm and filling. Jam Unnie loves hot broth too, so I was curious about the taste of the Andong gukbap broth.

After shopping for a long time, you know how you suddenly want a bowl of rice with warm broth. When that happens, Hantiok seems like a pretty satisfying place to eat near Nowon Station. The broth was mild and not heavily seasoned.

Another delicious nom nom meal with Uncle Jam today!! But we skipped the drinks~~~ We ate it wrapped in lettuce and on its own, but we still could not finish all seven slices ㅠㅠ

Dumplings and handmade tofu come with it too. When ordering the bossam set meal, you can choose either noodles or rice. Order it this way and you are basically eating every dish all at once. The dumplings were generously filled with meat too, so they were filling. Jam Unnie was so full that she only had one bite.

What are Andong guksu noodles like?

Andong guksu is made with knife-cut noodles, but rather than the chewy Seoul-style texture, the noodles break apart a little more easily. It may feel unfamiliar if it is your first time trying them, but the texture and flavor have their own charm. When they serve the noodles, they tell you, “They can get soggy, so please eat them quickly~” Actually, Gyeongsang-do-style knife-cut noodles can be even more so than this, haha.

The tofu was neither too soft nor too firm, with just the right texture and a lovely nutty flavor. If you are looking for a wholesome meal, I recommend Hantiok!! Have a look around the newly renovated Lotte Department Store Nowon too, then enjoy a delicious meal at Hantiok when you start feeling peckish. I recommend the bossam set meal^^
