Gangnam café lunch coffee discount and honest tiramisu review

In short

Selected Nicks is a large multi-floor café in Gangnam, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 3, spanning basement level 1 up to 3rd floor. Ordering an americano and tiramisu with the lunchtime ₩3,000 coffee discount, the coffee was tasty with a bit of acidity, but the tiramisu had a distinct boundary between bread and cream that fell a bit short. Good for coffee, spacious seating and the rooftop, though the tiramisu may be hit or miss depending on taste.

Today I'm reviewing Selected Nicks, a large Gangnam Station café I visited again — the seating is spacious and the desserts were tasty, so this is my second visit!

Where is Selected Nicks, how far from Gangnam Station

Exterior of Selected Nicks in the alley near Gangnam Station Exit 3

Selected Nicks is between Gangnam and Yeoksam stations, about a 4-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 3! You wouldn't expect such a large café to be tucked among all the office buildings, but once you go down the alley there's this huge café! It's good for a short lunchtime visit like mine, and also good for meeting friends after work (it stays open pretty late, too). This was my second visit here!

Inside Selected Nicks, what are the floor-by-floor seats like

It runs from basement level 1 up to the 3rd floor, and apparently the 8th floor is also open at certain hours (weekday/weekend hours for the 8th floor differ). You order on the 1st floor, where you can also buy dessert gifts.

Exhibition-café feel on basement level 1 of Selected Nicks

Here's what basement level 1 feels like! It varies depending on timing, but it has an exhibition-café vibe, and I liked that the artwork sometimes changes.

2nd floor, a bar-style counter good for laptop work

2nd floor seating at Selected Nicks, good for laptop work

The 2nd floor felt good for laptop work (so did the 3rd floor). I read on a blog that a lot of people study at the row of bar seats there... but when I visited during lunch, most guests were just chatting.

Since the space is large with high ceilings, sound tends to echo when it's crowded...! So if you want quiet laptop work or a calm conversation like me, avoiding lunchtime (the busy hours) should make for a much more comfortable visit!

3rd floor, group seating and bar counter

Long connected group tables on the 3rd floor

The 3rd floor has long connected tables, so it's good for groups. I heard the 2nd and 3rd floors also display artwork when there are pieces, but I happened to visit when there weren't any.

There's also a bar counter on the 3rd floor like the one I showed you on the 2nd floor, just so you know.

Rooftop

Last but not least, the rooftop photo! The rooftop was great because you can see all of Gangnam laid out below. Of course, I didn't actually get to use the rooftop because it was too hot. Probably great in current weather!

Selected Nicks menu and lunch discount

Check the photo above for the menu! This is the café my boss at work brought me to, saying the coffee was good. There's a ₩3,000 discount during lunch hours, so I definitely recommend taking advantage of it!!!!

There's also a set discount, just so you know!

From what I understand, this place is known for tiramisu, and there was quite a variety in the lineup! From the original to other flavors, dessert lovers will probably love it (wiping the drool off my chin...).

After trying the tiramisu and americano

Tiramisu and americano set on the table

Tiramisu (₩7,800) / Americano (₩6,000). As I mentioned, there's a ₩3,000 discount during lunch hours (that's basically half off, so make sure to take advantage of it..!!!!)

A cup of americano with tiramisu
Close-up of the dessert and coffee pairing

I really am happiest drinking coffee with a sweet dessert... The tiramisu wasn't too sweet, but it still went well with the coffee. The coffee definitely had a bit of acidity and tasted good!

A slice of Selected Nicks tiramisu

Tiramisu (₩7,800). The tiramisu had a soft feel, but rather than a fully creamy texture, the boundary between the bread and cream was distinct (this will probably be hit or miss).

A forkful of tiramisu showing its texture

Honestly, I'm a dessert lover and I'm a bit picky about desserts, so this tiramisu was a little disappointing to me. The bread and cream felt separate, and the bread seemed like it was supposed to be moist, but... rather than moist, the texture was more like jelly(?). Hmm... I wouldn't necessarily recommend it..!

Who I'd recommend this to

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a large café near Gangnam Station, a dessert café near Gangnam Station, or a good spot in Gangnam for laptop work!
