Gangnam café with comic art and landscaped rooftop: Selected Nicks

In short

Selected Nicks is a café in Gangnam, Seoul, with tiramisu, art displays, and rooftop views. I ordered chocolate banana tiramisu cake and milk tea, then explored the second-floor exhibition, hidden room, eighth floor, and rooftop. Verdict: a lovely stop for a sweet dessert and a break from the city.

A Gangnam café for tiramisu and exhibitions

I recently visited Selected Nicks, which has been getting lots of buzz as a Gangnam date spot. Selected Nicks had three standout features. First, it is known for tiramisu cake with generous portions, deep flavor, and surprisingly reasonable prices. Second, the café building has a gallery displaying artworks, so it looked great for a date. Finally, the rooftop offers views of Gangnam's city buildings. More to see than I expected!

The way in and ordering on the first floor

Selected Nicks was next to Gangnam Daesung Academy. I could enter Selected Nicks by taking the path between the academy and the café.

The walk to the entrance was a little long, but tables, chairs, and landscaping were arranged along the way, so it looked like a nice place to have coffee outside for a moment.

Orders were placed on the first floor, so I opened the door on the left and headed inside.

The café consisted of the rooftop, the eighth floor, and basement 1 through the third floor. A sign said there were art displays on basement 1 and the second floor, so I decided to order coffee and tiramisu cake first, then go take a look.

The café's set menus were as follows. The discount rate varied by ordering time and menu, so check before ordering and enjoy the happiness of a discount.

There was a counter on the first floor, where I could order tiramisu cake, snacks, coffee, and other drinks. I ordered milk tea and chocolate banana tiramisu cake.

Second-floor exhibition and chocolate banana tiramisu

Up on the second floor, there really were works featuring comic and animation characters throughout the space, with a somewhat playful feel. It was nice to sit in front of a piece I liked, enjoy the artwork, and have my refreshments. My camera forced me to choose: photograph the cake?? Or photograph the background?? As you can see, I chose the artwork. There was going to be plenty of tiramisu cake below anyway.

I was surprised that the tiramisu was bigger than expected, and surprised again by how generous the portion looked.

Generously sized tiramisu cake

This chocolate banana tiramisu cake came topped with chocolate chips and had banana inside. The components were pleasantly sweet, so I did not get tired of it while eating, and it actually felt as though I had visited an upscale bakery.

The milk tea also had a rich taste of milk and black tea, although it was a little overshadowed by the tiramisu. Perhaps that is why I think many people were having Americanos with their sweet cake.

The second-floor hidden room and third floor

Besides the area with artworks, the second floor had a space called the hidden room, which looked good for a date or a casual gathering. I went inside to check it out, and it felt cozy; since the door could be closed, it seemed like a place to make happy memories. This is the third floor.

Eighth-floor work space and rooftop city views

I took the elevator from the third floor to the eighth. The eighth floor suited people studying, reading, or working on documents. It was available from 17:00 to 24:00 on weekdays and from 11:00 to 23:30 on weekends. If you are interested in renting a seminar room or party room, it might be worth asking about the eighth floor.

Finally, one floor up from the eighth was the rooftop. Its advantage is an open view among Gangnam's tall buildings. Can you see it~? I can hardly believe there is landscaping like this amid the buildings of downtown Gangnam!

Lastly, I also looked around the exhibition on basement 1. There were some lovely works, so I spent about five minutes looking around before finishing my visit to Selected Nicks and heading home. To preserve the fun for those who actually visit, I will substitute the pamphlet.

When you want a brief break from everyday life in downtown Gangnam, how about enjoying generously portioned, deeply flavored tiramisu, art, and Gangnam city views from the rooftop? I think it makes for quite a nice rest.
