Ansan butcher shop rebuys 5 tteokgalbi patties: Morakmorak Home & Cook
In short
Morakmorak Home & Cook is a butcher shop on the basement floor of Star Plaza in Seongpo-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi, stocking Korean beef and pork, soup meat, seasoned meat, yukhoe, and tteokgalbi. On this return visit, the writer bought 5 tteokgalbi patties again along with beef for soup, though the popular yukhoe was sold out. A solid neighborhood butcher shop for handling both side dishes and soup meat in one stop.

Today I'm back at Morakmorak Home & Cook, a place I visit really often in Seongpo-dong, Ansan haha. Last time I bought Korean beef soup meat and yukhoe (raw beef tartare) to make miyeokguk (seaweed soup), and the meat quality was so good and everything I tried was solid, so now whenever I need meat this is naturally the first place that comes to mind.
This time I went grocery shopping again and bought a whopping 5 tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) that I really enjoyed last time, plus some beef to toss into a soup dish.

Morakmorak Home & Cook is located in the basement of Star Plaza, in front of the Seongpo-dong Artist Apartments in Ansan. If you're driving, you can use the Star Plaza parking lot, and parking can be validated after your purchase, so I tend to go by car every time.

Especially when you buy several kinds of meat, the bags get surprisingly heavy, so driving is by far the most convenient. The store has a really wide selection — Korean beef, Korean pork, soup meat, seasoned meat, yukhoe, tteokgalbi, and more.

The tteokgalbi I rebought — 5 of them
Even when I go just to quickly grab the meat I need, browsing each fridge always pulls other items into view. One of my goals this visit was the tteokgalbi. I'd bought it once before and it was way tastier than expected, so this time I grabbed 5 tteokgalbi and nothing else.

It's easy to just grill at home when side dishes are lacking, and since you don't need to prep anything else, having a few in the fridge feels really reassuring.

Yukhoe sold out — next time then
Last time I bought a ₩9,900 pack of yukhoe and enjoyed it a lot, and the yukhoe bibimbap I had at the neighboring Morakmorak Seolleongtang was also delicious with generous yukhoe on top. So this time I went straight to the fridge looking for yukhoe again, but no matter how I looked, it just wasn't there.

Maybe it was because I went late and everything had sold out — there was no yukhoe in sight that day. Last time I visited, there was a constant crowd around the yukhoe corner, with some people grabbing several packs at once, so it must really be a popular menu item haha. A bit disappointing, but I'll be on the lookout for it again next visit!

Not just a raw meat butcher shop
Unlike a typical butcher shop that only carries raw meat, this place also has a variety of items like tteokgalbi and seasoned meat that you can easily cook at home, so it's fun just to browse.

It's also a great stop for buying meat before a camping trip or a stay at a pension, and just as convenient for picking up soup meat or dinner side dishes like I do.

In particular, you can grill meat bought here at the Morakmorak Seolleongtang right next door. I've gone there often for seolleongtang, galbitang, and yukhoe bibimbap, but I haven't yet tried grilling meat there myself. I'm planning to visit for dinner soon and properly pick out some meat to grill.

No matter how many times I visit, the meat at Morakmorak Home & Cook is always clean and the variety is so wide that I keep coming back.

Soup beef, cut to whatever use you tell them
This time I also ordered beef to put into a soup dish. When I told them which dish I was using it for, they prepared it to suit that use, which was really convenient.

One reason I keep coming back to Morakmorak Home & Cook is that I can easily ask about which cut or use I need.

The owner is always really kind whenever I visit, and if I mention what dish I'm cooking, they recommend the meat well. Above all, I've bought here enough times now that I trust the meat quality without a second thought!

The soup meat I bought last time for miyeokguk was tender with no off smell, and it made a great broth, so it was delicious. The beef I bought this time is also meant for a soup dish, so I'm already looking forward to it.

This shopping trip, wrapped up
This time, because I remembered how good the tteokgalbi was, I rebought 5 of just that plus soup beef, and once again I came home with exactly what I needed haha.

It's a shame I couldn't get the yukhoe, but I'll grab it right away next time I see it! If you're looking for a butcher shop with solid meat quality in Seongpo-dong, Ansan, or looking for easy home dishes like soup meat, tteokgalbi, or yukhoe, I recommend Morakmorak Home & Cook.

The owner is always kind and prepares the meat to fit whatever I need it for, so I think I'll keep coming back.

Next time, I'll really buy meat and grill it right next door, then come back with a review haha.
