Ansan katsu restaurant with curry beef katsu & gyudon: Gin Jaryoko

Today I was trying to figure out what to eat in Gojan-dong, Ansan, and ended up at Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch! The menu ranges from pork cutlet to rice bowls, curry, and udon, so it seemed like a good spot to bring people with different tastes. What really stood out to me was the generous portion size, so let me introduce it :)

Where is Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch, and what is it like inside?

When I arrived in front of Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch, I could spot it right away thanks to the big Gin Jaryoko sign. The exterior gives off a strong Japanese restaurant vibe from the outside!

What's on the Gin Jaryoko menu: katsu, rice bowls, curry and udon

At the entrance, the signature menu items were introduced, and the cream demi-glace pork cutlet immediately caught my eye. There's also plenty of variety with sake-don (salmon rice bowl), katsu-don, mentaiko cream udon, and more. You order at the kiosk. Even just within pork cutlet, there were quite a few options — demi-glace pork cutlet, mushroom demi-glace pork cutlet, and the Gin Jaryoko assorted set.

The rice bowl menu included sake-don, gyudon (beef rice bowl), katsu-don, oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl), and special gyudon. It's not just a pork cutlet place, so it seemed convenient for a group to each pick something different.

The curry menu was also super varied — from spicy beef curry rice to croquette, chicken, and king prawn curry rice, all the way to curry udon, so I had a serious case of choice paralysis haha.

Looking closer at the noodle menu, there was mentaiko cream udon, bacon cream udon, mushroom cream udon, and even rosé and tomato pasta udon. I want to try the mentaiko cream udon next time.

There was also bukkake cold udon. Good option too on a day you're craving something cold instead of pork cutlet or a rice bowl, right?

There were plenty of side dishes too — soy sauce egg rice, butter soy sauce egg rice, Gin Jaryoko salad, chicken karaage, french fries, fried oysters, croquette, and fried king prawn.

You can also add demi-glace sauce, mentaiko, natto, or raw egg separately, so I liked that you can customize your combination however you want.

How to order at the kiosk and get the free 1.5-portion upsize

At Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch, you order at the kiosk, check your number, and they call it out when your food is ready. Water, side dishes, broth, and small plates are all self-serve at the bar. By the way, they were also running a receipt review event — according to the signage, if you write a review and show the screen, you get one canned drink per review, so keep that in mind!

And the thing that really caught my eye — free 1.5-portion upsize! They said leaving food unfinished comes with a ₩3,000 environmental fee, so only go for the 1.5 portion if you're sure you'll finish it!

The self-serve bar had warm broth, diced radish kimchi, and pickled radish ready to go. It was convenient being able to grab as much as I wanted myself.

Bar table seating: is Gin Jaryoko good for solo dining?

Seating at Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch is a long bar table setup. It was impressive that the kitchen was open, so you could watch the food being made. The long, narrow layout gave off a slight feeling of stepping into a small local restaurant in Japan haha.

The layout doesn't feel awkward for eating alone, so it seemed like a good option for anyone looking for a solo dining spot in Gojan-dong. Now, finally, the food I'd been waiting for!

How does the curry beef katsu taste?

First up, the curry beef pork cutlet! It came out in a big black bowl, generously loaded with curry, rice, and pork cutlet. Just looking at it felt filling.

The pork cutlet was golden brown and crispy on the outside, and dipping it generously into the curry added even more moistness. The combo of crispy breading and soft curry worked really well together.

I mixed it all so the curry soaked into the rice, then topped it with pork cutlet for a bite. If you're looking for a pork cutlet restaurant in Gojan-dong, this was a filling, satisfying dish.

Chicken karaage, the side to add at Gin Jaryoko

I also ordered chicken karaage as a side, and it came out in a bigger, more generous pile than I expected. There was plenty of sauce on the side to go with it, too. The karaage was especially crispy outside and juicy inside — so good, I recommend it!

I loaded the karaage up with sauce for a bite. The crispy fried coating combined with the smooth, savory sauce and I kept reaching for more haha. A solid pick if you want to add one extra side.

Special gyudon (beef rice bowl): portion and flavor

I also tried the special gyudon (beef rice bowl). It came piled high with beef and onion over rice, with a soft egg on top, so it looked delicious right from the start.

I popped the egg and mixed the meat and rice together evenly. A full spoonful of beef, onion, and rice was so filling it made a perfect single meal.

Is Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch worth a visit?

Visiting in person, Gin Jaryoko Ansan Gojan Branch had a huge menu, letting you pick from pork cutlet, rice bowls, curry, and sides all in one place.
