Ocean-view mak guksu restaurant in Gangneung with baby seating
In short
Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin branch is a dongchimi (radish water kimchi) mak guksu (buckwheat cold noodles) restaurant on the Namhangjin beachfront in Gangneung. The writer built a custom dongchimi broth noodle bowl and shared moist bossam (boiled pork wraps) with her baby, enjoying floor-to-ceiling ocean views, free dedicated parking, and easy baby-chair setup. A great last stop to settle the stomach on the final day of a Gangneung trip.

Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin branch, a Gangneung mak guksu favorite / an ocean-view restaurant to bring your baby to / bossam and mak guksu, the perfect combo ⭐️
The place we go back to every last day in Gangneung
Our go-to spot again on this Gangneung trip ~! We visited Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin branch, a place we've been going to since we were dating 😍
We always eat at Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu on the last day of our Gangwon-do trips before heading back. After days of greasy, heavy food, one bowl of cold dongchimi mak guksu makes my stomach feel instantly refreshed — I can't forget that feeling ~ 👏
This time we went to the Namhangjin branch, and apparently it's the only dongchimi mak guksu restaurant in Gangneung with an ocean view!!

What's the ocean view and atmosphere like?
The moment we arrived, this gorgeous ocean view opened up!! I was excited from the entrance already. Eating mak guksu while looking out at this view feels like being at a fancy restaurant.
It's also close to Anmok Café Street, so it's great for a coffee after your meal. There's a nice walking path too, so we enjoyed a stroller walk with our baby. Ocean view for the win!
Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin branch opened in 1998 and finished remodeling in 2023, so the interior is really sleek and clean now. Bright light pours in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and with the artwork on the walls and pretty table chairs, the owner's sense of style really shows. 👍
Wow... there were so many celebrity signatures. Between us and all the celebrities who've come back again and again, this is clearly a Gangneung mak guksu place that once you visit, you'll definitely return to!!!

Is it okay to bring a baby?
The owner was super kind too — right away helping set up the baby chair and dishes, and checking in again to see if we needed anything else. As a mom of twins, I get really moved by this kind of thing ^_^ I remember the staff being just as kind when we visited a different branch before..!!

Our excited little girl!!! Pacifier tucked into a paper cup, ready to eat 🧑🍳 She screamed that she wouldn't sit in the baby chair haha, so she sat in a regular chair instead, and it worked out fine

What we ordered 🧑🍳 Mak guksu ₩11,000 / Bossam set ₩29,000

Finally, the mak guksu and bossam arrived!!! I'd been craving this so much. 🧡 The dongchimi is truly the kick here‼️ Dongchimi cuts through that heavy, buckwheat-forward taste — you know, the buckwheat smell some people don't love — and blends it into something refreshing, so even people who don't usually like mak guksu will end up loving this dongchimi version.

How do you customize the dongchimi broth?
Especially!!! The biggest feature of Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu is that 📌you build your own mak guksu + seasoning combo to your own taste. They don't sell bibim (spicy mixed) and mul (broth) mak guksu separately — instead, you mix your own dongchimi broth and seasoning to your liking, and that's this place's biggest signature. For those of us with decision paralysis like me haha, this actually works out great!?

I made my own tasty dongchimi mak guksu using the sauces from this really clean sauce caddy.

First, I scooped in 4 ladles of dongchimi broth. Then add mustard, vinegar, and sugar to taste. I went heavy on the vinegar and mustard~

And wrapping it up with this moist bossam — how good is that combo!?

Apparently Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu makes their dongchimi and side dishes in-house!! Maybe that's why the dongchimi feels even more refreshing and deep in flavor.

Why the bossam pork stays so moist
And this place ⭐️ the bossam is seriously so moist and tender. I really love bossam so I order it alongside mak guksu wherever we go — and so many places boil it ahead of time and it comes out dry by the time it's served, you know? But here! It's genuinely as tender and moist as if it were just boiled, melting the moment it hits your mouth.
My daughter doesn't usually eat meat with much texture, only finely minced meat — but she picked up this bossam and tore into it with her hands!!!! That says it all ✔️ And the sikhae (fermented fish rice) was sweet enough to pair beautifully with the bossam, making an amazing combo with the mak guksu too.
Wrapped it up with salted shrimp and sikhae and it disappeared in no time.

Lol our daughter, picking up the whole bowl to drink from. She insisted on gulping down the bossam and mak guksu broth all at once... My daughter who had no appetite even at the hotel buffet found her appetite here ^_^ If you're traveling in Gangneung, I highly recommend stopping by Samgyori Makguksu Namhangjin branch for a bowl of mak guksu and bossam!!
