Sokcho bakery souvenirs: potato bread and squid jjondeugi gift sets
In short
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is a bakery and café on Haksapyeong-gil between Sokcho and Goseong in Gangwon, just past the Misiryeong Tunnel. On a two-day Sokcho and Goseong trip, the writer picked up one box of bultan gamja bread, the shop's burnt-style potato bread (4 pieces, 9,000 won), and one set of Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi, a chewy dried snack (12 pieces, 10,000 won), as gifts for their parents, who both loved the chewy rice-cake shell packed with potato. For a Sokcho souvenir that isn't the usual, Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is the answer.

On a spontaneous one-night, two-day trip to Sokcho and Goseong, I picked up some snacks for my parents — potato bread and jjondeugi (chewy rice-cake snack) haha! Not the usual potato bread and jjondeugi you can buy anywhere in Sokcho, but a unique Sokcho dessert that makes a great trip souvenir: Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread.
Where is Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store, and is there parking?

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store sits between Sokcho and Goseong, just past the Misiryeong Tunnel! You can park right in front of the store. The exterior catches your eye from far away — pretty striking haha.
Inside Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store: a bakery where you can sit with coffee

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store also runs as a café, so the inside is set up so you can sit down and have coffee haha. A cozy, friendly atmosphere.

Seems like the owner has some connection to the entertainment industry, because there were so many celebrity autographs on the Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread goods — Song Seung-heon, Yoo Jae-suk, Krystal, Han Suk-kyu, and more, haha.
Potato bread and jjondeugi prices at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread

Not just regular potato bread — bultan (burnt) gamja bread. One box has 4 pieces, and you get 10% off when you buy 3 or more boxes, so at ₩9,000 a box it's not a burden to buy several as gifts, right?! And jjondeugi in a squid flavor I'd never heard of before?! Super curious what that tastes like ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Potatoes, domestically sourced ദ്ദി Staff, domestically sourced too hahaha
Gift boxes and how to store bultan gamja bread

The bultan gamja bread and jjondeugi packaging is so cute hahaha. I brought home one box of potato bread and one set of jjondeugi ◡̎ The jjondeugi is a reasonable price too at ₩10,000 for 12, and each piece is wrapped so carefully, right?!
For storing Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread, it's best eaten the day you buy it :) If you're saving it for later, freeze it right away and let it thaw naturally starting 30 minutes to an hour before eating! (The potato inside can spoil easily in hot weather, so be careful with storage if you're not eating it the same day!!)
What does Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi taste like?

Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi doesn't taste fully like squid, but here's a tip for eating it well: instead of tearing it into thin strips, tear it a bit thicker and you get a chewy texture and subtle aroma like biting into squid, haha. Tear it thick, thick! I usually like grilling jjondeugi lightly over a flame, but this one I actually preferred eating plain hahaha!

Bultan gamja bread review: chewy rice cake packed with potato
What even is bultan gamja bread? I was curious haha. And the look of it — hahaha, it really looks like burnt potato bread :) A potato bread with an aggressively scorched visual hahaha.

Inside the thick, chewy rice-cake shell is real potato, packed to the brim ദ്ദി The chewy texture, deep nutty potato flavor, and a hint of that smoky char flavor haha. Both my parents said it was so delicious. Good! ദ്ദി
I love potato bread and always eat some whenever I travel to Gangwon-do, but this was a totally different take on it!! If you're looking for a Sokcho dessert gift that isn't the usual, stop by Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store, a Sokcho bakery worth visiting ◡̎
