This time I traveled with my mom and dad, and since my mom loves snow crab, we went to a snow crab spot in Sokcho! You can't come all the way to Sokcho without eating sashimi and crab 🦀🐟
With a seat facing Daepo Port right outside and a baby chair ready to go, it was a great pick for visiting with 15-month-old Doha. Let me introduce Hanggu Hwareo, a raw fish restaurant at Daepo Port in Sokcho!

Right in front of Daepo Port: inside and outside Hanggu Hwareo

Hanggu Hwareo sits right in front of Daepo Port. You can see the harbor from the front of the restaurant, so it felt like Sokcho even before we started eating. Eating sashimi while looking at the sea — so romantic..🌊🐡

The interior had a nice atmosphere for family dining, and with a baby chair ready, Doha was set to join us for the meal too 🍴

When you go to a restaurant with a kid, it matters a lot whether the space feels cramped — Hanggu Hwareo felt open, so our little one sat, ate, looked around, and held up really well!
There's also separate pet-friendly seating, so people traveling with dogs could dine comfortably too 🐕🐩
Well-kept tanks and lively fish at Hanggu Hwareo
At a raw fish restaurant, you check the tanks first. Sometimes the water's cloudy or the fish don't look great (dead fish floating upside down...) and it puts you off before you even eat!
At Hanggu Hwareo, the tanks were really clean and the fish inside looked healthy — reassuring!
There was even a stingray that seemed to say hello — so cute 🙉 I think I ended up watching it more than Doha did.
What we ordered: the snow crab set for 4

We came as 4 adults plus 1 baby, so we ordered the snow crab set for 4. The set includes snow crab, raw fish sashimi, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), spicy fish stew, and side dishes.
Sashimi, crab, and finally spicy fish stew to finish — an absolutely perfect combo..✨
Side dishes you keep reaching for
First, the side dishes came out

Pork cutlet, fish cutlet, mulhoe, kimchi pancake, sliced squid sashimi, abalone, sea cucumber, sea squirt, plus basic banchan — quite a variety! The kimchi pancake was genuinely crispy and delicious, I had two plates...!

The mulhoe had generous, thick chunks of fish, like the store-bought kind.
For Doha, I cut off the sauce-free part of the fish cutlet and gave it to her with rice.
Chewy, plump sashimi: amberjack, rockfish and flounder
Next came the sashimi. It came as amberjack, rockfish, and flounder.

Hanggu Hwareo's sashimi felt fresh from the very first bite. I'm not a fan of sashimi sliced too thin, and here it was cut with a nice thickness, giving it good chew. It was seriously chewy, sticking to your teeth in the best way.

Of all the sashimi I've ever had, this ranked #1 for chewiness 🥇 At this point it's hard to resist a drink — cheers, going in haha
Snow crab packed with meat: top-tier yield
Finally, the snow crab arrived. It looked amazing the moment it came out, and the meat yield was really good once we dug in 👍🏻

With crab, you sometimes get thin legs with barely any meat, just crunching on shell... Here the legs were packed with meat, so the whole family enjoyed it.
Crab meat is delicious on its own, but dipping it in the innards makes it even more savory. Just don't eat all the innards — save them for the innard fried rice. It's genuinely delicious, please save some...
Even a 15-month-old tucked into the snow crab
Doha held a crab leg and ate it with real skill. At first I cut small pieces for her, but she wasn't satisfied and demanded a whole leg.
When giving crab to a child, make sure to check there are no shell fragments in the meat first!
Crab innard fried rice is a must, not an option (3,000 won per serving)
After finishing the crab, you can add innard fried rice. We ordered two servings, priced at ₩3,000 each.

You absolutely have to try this. The innards weren't too salty or fishy, just clean and savory — genuinely delicious. Even after filling up on crab, I kept going back for more with my spoon. Honestly, I think I ate most of it myself haha
The final course: spicy fish stew

The last course was the spicy fish stew! We added instant noodles too, and after all the sashimi and crab, that warm stew got the drinks flowing again 🍺
Verdict: a Sokcho Daepo Port snow crab spot that works with kids
Hanggu Hwareo in Sokcho lets you enjoy sashimi and snow crab together right in front of Daepo Port. With a baby chair available, it was easy to visit with our child, and eating with a view of Daepo Port's harbor made it even better!
The snow crab set we ordered — with crab, sashimi, mulhoe, spicy fish stew, and side dishes — was more than satisfying! The sashimi was especially thick and chewy, and the crab was packed with meat, so we all ate really well.
If you're looking for a crab or sashimi restaurant to visit with kids at Sokcho's Daepo Port, definitely check out Hanggu Hwareo :-)
