Suyeong monkfish restaurant: switch suyuk to jjim at Sintongyeong
In short
Sintongyeong Agu Suyuk.Tang is a monkfish restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, where diners can change monkfish suyuk to spicy jjim for ₩10,000. I went with my mom for generous side dishes, tender fish, and a satisfyingly filling two-course dinner. Verdict: a great dinner when you want both dishes.

While Mom and I were wondering what to have for dinner, I thought of agu-jjim (spicy braised monkfish), which she loves. Then I found an agu suyuk place neither of us had tried, so we decided to go!
Sintongyeong Agu Suyuk.Tang near Suyeong Station: location and parking
Sintongyeong Agu Suyuk.Tang is reached by walking from Exit 3 of Suyeong Station toward Suyeong Paldo Market. Head in the direction of the post office—it is across from the post office! By bus, get off at Suyeong Intersection. From there, head toward Suyeong Paldo Market as if you were going to the subway, then toward the post office; it is across the street.
There is no parking support if you drive. There is a parking lot across from the restaurant, but it is tower parking! I think you should keep that in mind before coming~ You could also take public transit and have a drink with monkfish suyuk for dinner.
Storefront and hours

Sintongyeong Agu Suyuk.Tang is on a main road, so it is easy to find, and the fish tank gives you the feeling that you can have fresh monkfish or sashimi here! The exterior is neat from the start and has the air of a popular local spot that neighborhood residents visit often.
Hours are 15:00 to 23:00, Monday through Saturday, and it is closed every Sunday. Other than its regular closing day, it is open from late lunch through dinner, so it is easy to visit. It tends to get busy at dinner peak time, so I recommend arriving a little early if you want a more relaxed meal.
Inside and the fresh monkfish menu

The interior is neatly arranged, with a comfortable amount of space between tables. Signature dishes include fresh agu suyuk-tang (gently poached monkfish served with broth) and agu-jjim, and the key feature is that they use fresh monkfish.
When you order agu suyuk, you can enjoy its clean flavor first, then pay an extra ₩10,000 to have seasoning added and change it into jjim midway through. It is a great system for enjoying different flavors. They also have fresh seafood such as gizzard shad sashimi and raw shrimp, so it is nice for drinks in the evening~
Agu suyuk-tang with generous side dishes
Mom and I wanted agu suyuk, so that is what we ordered—and they gave us so many side dishes. I thought we might be full before the main dish even arrived.

Still, when the agu suyuk-tang main dish arrived, the portion was seriously huge~ The flesh was tender and mild with no fishy smell. Monkfish liver and innards came with it too, and their rich, nutty flavor was excellent.
A light dip in wasabi soy sauce really brought out the monkfish's fresh flavor, and it went well with chojang (sweet-tangy chili sauce), too. Bean sprouts and minari (water celery) were underneath, and the broth was wonderfully refreshing; eating them together with the monkfish suyuk made it even better. The chojang was especially delicious with the minari.
The agu suyuk had such a generous portion and soft flesh, while the broth was nicely spicy and easy to spoon up. But we saved some because we wanted to have the jjim Mom likes.
Spicy agu-jjim changed over for ₩10,000
So after Mom and I ate the agu suyuk, we wanted jjim too, so we paid an extra ₩10,000 to switch it over.
The jjim portion was enormous too~ Crunchy bean sprouts and the sweet-spicy sauce soaked beautifully into the monkfish flesh, giving it a completely different charm from the suyuk. There were lots of bean sprouts and tons of sauce. And it was very spicy.
Even so, I was very satisfied because we could efficiently enjoy two flavors from one dish. We had both the mildness of fresh monkfish and the spicy jjim, and finished dinner completely full.

They added omandong (sea squirt) as well as lots of bean sprouts, so the portion was really big. For reference, they said takeout is not available. The sauce is spicy, so if you like heat, it would be good to nibble on as a drinking snack!
After we ate, lots of people started coming in. Apparently, this place is connected to Sintongyeong Oyster Soup Rice, so dishes can be ordered across the two places. You can order this menu there too, which seems great for a group company dinner.
