Samgyetang restaurant in Dongtan for postpartum recovery: Dream
In short
Dream Samgyetang is a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Dongtan KTX Central Park View officetel commercial building near Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a family outing with a sister who had just given birth and a young niece, the writer ordered the Dream Samgyetang and the mung bean samgyetang together, comparing the turmeric-yellow broth with the thick mung bean one. With domestic chicken, no preservatives or MSG, and generously spaced tables, Dream Samgyetang is an easy choice for a family meal with a new mother and kids.

A Dongtan samgyetang meal with a postpartum sister and a young niece
Dream Samgyetang, a well-known samgyetang spot in Dongtan

My sister gave birth not too long ago, so picking a family meal spot took some extra thought. I needed somewhere our young niece could come too, and somewhere my sister could eat without worry, so I ended up at Dream Samgyetang in Dongtan — good for some body-nourishing food too. Since it's a restaurant we'd be visiting with a baby, I paid extra close attention to what ingredients they actually use.

Dream Samgyetang only uses domestic chicken and makes its own kimchi in-house, which gave me even more confidence. It was a clean, filling meal near Dongtan Station — here's my honest review from our family dinner there ☺️

No preservatives, no MSG, and wide gaps between tables
No preservatives, no MSG
Dream Samgyetang near Dongtan Station follows a no-preservatives, no-MSG principle, preparing the samgyetang fresh every day to let the natural flavor of the ingredients shine through. It's not easy to find restaurants these days that stick to healthy ingredients and cooking methods like this, so that was another reason I liked the place!

The restaurant turned out to be much bigger than I expected. Maybe because there are a lot of families with kids, the tables were spaced out generously too. They weren't crammed right up against each other, so the atmosphere felt relatively relaxed for eating.
Complimentary ginseng wine before the meal

We ordered Dream Samgyetang and mung bean samgyetang! They serve ginseng wine before the meal, and I loved how the aroma rose up so subtly.

As soon as I took a sip my body felt warmed up, which made it a great thing to drink before digging into the samgyetang. It seemed like a great Dongtan spot not just for a hearty, nourishing meal, but also for a light drink with a side dish alongside the samgyetang 👏🏻

Dream Samgyetang vs mung bean samgyetang: what's the difference?
Dream Samgyetang: the turmeric-yellow broth
Dream Samgyetang is simmered for a long time with ten kinds of medicinal herbs and grains packed in — ginseng, phellinus mushroom, turmeric, eleuthero, astragalus root, jujube and more. Probably because of the turmeric, the broth is a deep, rich yellow from the start.

There's a subtle herbal aroma, and the broth is deep and rich, so just eating it makes you feel healthier somehow! The chicken was also bigger than I expected — just a light touch with chopsticks and the meat pulled apart along the grain, easy to eat and genuinely tender.
Mung bean samgyetang: the thick broth
The mung bean samgyetang is loaded with mung beans, so the broth feels distinctly different from Dream Samgyetang right away. The broth is thicker and richer, almost creamier — it kind of wraps around your mouth more smoothly.
If Dream Samgyetang is about a clean, savory broth that pairs well with the plain flavor of the chicken, the mung bean samgyetang adds the nutty, heavy flavor of mung beans on top of that, so even one bowl leaves you completely full 😋

Dipping the chicken all the way into the broth was especially good — you get the savory broth flavor and the moist chicken together, and it was so delicious. Personally, if you like a clean, light broth, I'd recommend Dream Samgyetang; if you like something richer, more savory and more filling, go for the mung bean samgyetang!
A family meal kids finish, plus nationwide delivery

My niece ate her samgyetang unusually well that day, which made me weirdly proud, at this restaurant near Dongtan Station 🍲 Samgyetang is a dish anyone — adults, kids, everyone — can enjoy without worry, and Dream Samgyetang has enough variety of samgyetang types that you can pick based on your taste, which I also liked.

They've also started nationwide delivery, so whenever you're craving that rich, thick samgyetang broth, ordering delivery from Dream Samgyetang seems like a good option too 🥰 Whether you want a hearty, nourishing meal or you're looking for a family gathering spot, family meal, or restaurant near Dongtan Station, definitely give Dream Samgyetang a visit~
