I went to hang out in Hongdae after a while and stopped by Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza, famous as a pizza spot around Hapjeong. Everything from the wood-fired pizza to the pasta was satisfying overall — let me introduce it right away.

A Saturday 1pm reservation: seating and atmosphere at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza
I visited with a reservation at 1pm on a Saturday, and aside from the reserved tables, the place was almost fully booked. There were various tables for 2 and 4.

Polaroid photos were plastered all over the walls, and seeing how densely they covered the space, you could tell a lot of people had come through here.

They said everything from the dough to the pizza toppings to the pickles served alongside is made in-house, which raised my expectations for the pizza even more.

Can you order half-and-half? Every pizza can be split in two
Once seated, I checked the menu right away — there was quite a variety of wood-fired pizzas, plus pasta and salad options that go well with them.

What I liked most was that every pizza on the menu can be ordered half-and-half.

Before the pizza came out, an orange ade arrived first. It seemed to be freshly squeezed since it had a lot of pulp in it, and I could feel the little bits with every sip — surprisingly tasty haha.

The order and the prices at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza
I ordered the half-and-half Quattro Formaggi pizza + Patata Dolce pizza (₩24,500) and the Gamberi e Rucola oil pasta (₩19,500).

With the pizza and pasta filling the table, it looked delicious just from the visuals.

Quattro Formaggi pizza: four cheeses with honey on the side
The Quattro Formaggi pizza had four cheeses total — gorgonzola, cream cheese, reggiano, and mozzarella — while the Patata Dolce pizza was piled high with steamed sweet potato mousse.
Starting with a slice of the Quattro Formaggi... they drizzled honey all over it!

The salty, rich cheese combined with the sweet honey made for a perfect sweet-and-salty combo, TT
Because it's baked in a wood-fired oven, even the crust edge wasn't chewy or hard but had a nice pull to it, so I ended up finishing every bite.

Patata Dolce pizza: loaded with sweet potato mousse
The Patata Dolce pizza was also generously topped with sweet potato mousse. It was soft and sweet, and even though I'm not usually a sweet potato pizza person, I enjoyed it.

Gamberi e Rucola oil pasta: shrimp, arugula, and garlic oil
While eating the pizza, I also dug into the pasta.

I generally like oil pasta and rucola, so the visual alone — loaded with shrimp and rucola — won me over. The oil was infused with shrimp aroma, which built up my expectations before I even took a bite.

The first bite showed the tomato and rucola blended well together, and even as an oil pasta, it wasn't greasy at all, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Is Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza good for a date or a group meal?
At Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza I had the half-and-half Quattro Formaggi and Patata Dolce pizza along with the Gamberi e Rucola oil pasta. Getting to enjoy two pizza flavors on one pie was great, and the chewy wood-fired dough was satisfying too.
The pasta paired well with the pizza too, and the staff were friendly, so it was a comfortable meal overall. The atmosphere was nice, making it a good spot for a date or a group gathering. If you're looking for good wood-fired pizza and pasta around Hongdae, Hapjeong, or Sangsu, this place is worth a visit.
