Gangnam hair salon ash brown tone-down dye: Biorn Hair

This time, I went for an ash brown tone-down color for fall 🍁 I usually dye my hair around levels 7–9! But since I color it often, it gets lighter after only a month—as if I’d bleached it.

My hair was light with lots of orange and red tones showing through, so I got a level 6 ash brown color at Biorn Hair Apgujeong Rodeo. To give you the conclusion first: this fall tone-down color was a huge success.. 🖤 It completely neutralized the red tones, and I loved the calm, polished feel that is so distinctly ash.

An easy-to-find location near Apgujeong Rodeo Station

I visited by subway! It was about a 3-minute walk from Apgujeong Rodeo Station, so it was really easy to find. It’s on the third floor at 8 Seolleung-ro 161-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and its hours are 09:30–20:00. It is regularly closed on Tuesdays.

There was also a parking lot on the right side of the building. If you’re visiting by car, you can use the valet service 🚗 (*Valet fee: ₩5,000)

A gray-toned space filled with natural light

The interior of Biorn Hair was done in calm gray tones, so it felt bright and clean overall! Maybe because it’s on the third floor, but the natural light pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows was so lovely.. ☀️ With the open view outside too, I could spend my appointment feeling relaxed rather than cooped up, haha.

From the mirrors to the chairs, there were metal details everywhere, giving it that sleek metal-interior feel—almost like I’d come to a stylish café 🫶🏻

A color consultation to neutralize orange and red tones

First, here is my before photo. I had dyed it level 7 ash brown last time, but as the color faded over time, it had become light like in the photo above,, 🥲 There was a lot of red + orange showing through, so this time I wanted to tone it down while keeping that ash feel!

Before coloring, I had a thorough consultation with designer Han Suji. She explained that mixing in blue, the complementary color, would help achieve the ash tone I wanted from my hair 🩵 She tailored the service by considering not only the color I wanted but also my hair’s current condition, which made me trust her even more 👍🏻👍🏻

Careful protection for both scalp and skin

Before getting into the actual coloring, they quickly and carefully applied a scalp protectant first! It protects the scalp from irritation before the service, so I could get my color done with peace of mind.

Next, they carefully applied protective cream around my ears, forehead, and other areas so the dye would not get on my skin! I could tell they were attentive to every detail, from scalp to skin, so I felt comfortable throughout the appointment 😊

A quick color service even for long hair

Along with Suji, another designer helped too, so they could apply the dye quickly! Since my hair is quite long, I thought applying the dye would take a while, but I loved that the two of them worked together so carefully ❣️

I could not help but admire their careful hands as they applied the dye. I filmed it too 🫶🏻

My hair reaches down to my chest, but they applied the dye so quickly! I waited like this for about 25 minutes ⏰

Then it was off to the shampoo room! They thoroughly shampooed my scalp and hair so no dye remained, and even used a cooling product to soothe my scalp. They finished with hand pressure-point massage too—it felt so refreshing and healing ☁️

This is how it looked after shampooing! Even before the blow-dry, I could already see that the tone-down color had turned out beautifully, so I was excited for the final result 🥹

The two of them did the blow-dry together too, so my long wet hair dried quickly 👍🏻

I had plans after my salon visit, so I was secretly worried about how long the service would take! But even with chest-length hair, they worked quickly and carefully, so I finished with more time to spare than I expected. (Service time: about 1 hour)

The final dark ash brown tone-down result

A huge success for my fall tone-down color.. 🖤 It was exactly the dark ash brown shade I wanted, without orange or red tones, and it made my face look brighter too—it was so pretty.
