I've had so much on my plate this second half of the year that my energy has been dropping day by day.. and at times like this I really feel I need to eat well and recharge. So I went out for some proper nourishing food — to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, a well-known Yangjae Station spot for meals and company dinners •ᴗ•

The atmosphere and group seating

The restaurant was clean overall and the space felt quite roomy.

Roomy, clean restaurant interior
Tables with generous spacing and group seating

There was generous spacing between tables and plenty of group seating, so it looked great for family gatherings or company dinners too. When we visited there was a real mix — families and office workers alike haha

Self-serve bar for side dishes

If you run low on side dishes while eating, you can just grab more from the self-serve bar. I especially loved that there was plenty of lettuce and perilla leaves ready for wrapping the eel :)

What's on the menu besides eel

Eel is the main event, but they also have grilled beef short rib, and the table charge is ₩3,000 per adult / ₩2,000 per child. There are seafood options too — grilled abalone, grilled scallops, grilled king prawns, steamed oysters, grilled mushrooms — that go great alongside the eel on the grill! Even if you're not in the mood for grilled eel, there are meal options like eel-loach soup, seasoned eel set, and green onion kimchi jjigae, so it's also a good spot for lunch.

A nice variety of basic side dishes came out too — white kimchi, perilla leaf pickles, ginger, salad, lettuce, green onion kimchi — all great with the eel ఇ

Eel juice included as standard

They give you a pack of eel juice as a default here. Amazing, right,, downing a pack of eel juice right before the eel itself made me feel like I could win any fight today^.^

The 1kg eel — salt-grilled straight from raw, no pre-grilling

✔️1kg of eel. Here comes today's star! What struck me first was just how fresh the eel was.

Fresh raw eel after cleaning and prep

Instead of coming out pre-grilled, the fresh eel is cleaned and prepped right there and placed straight onto the charcoal — the glossy look of it alone was no joke..

Salt-grilled eel placed on the charcoal

Above all, the eel was big and plump! It had real thickness too, so just watching it turn a golden brown built up my anticipation.

A staff member flipped it over so it wouldn't burn and grilled it to the perfect point for eating! That made it so easy for us to just relax and enjoy haha

The well-grilled eel had a golden, slightly crisp surface, while the inside stayed juicy and moist ㅠㅠ

Eel grilled to a golden brown

Biting into the thick flesh, it had a chewy texture..🤍 and the more I chewed, the more the eel's savory flavor came through. There was almost no fishy taste, just clean and light. The quality was so good that it was totally satisfying even plain, no sauce needed!

Eel dipped in teriyaki sauce

But eel really is best dipped fully in teriyaki sauce♥ The sweet-salty sauce pairs so well with the eel's savory flavor. With all the sides to choose from — white kimchi, perilla pickles, ginger, lettuce — it was fun mixing up the combination with every bite*.*

They also threw in mushrooms and rice cakes on the house. Charcoal-grilled mushrooms genuinely taste like meat;

Grilled king prawns on the side

✔️Grilled king prawns. I joined the review event too and scored six king prawns. Grilling eel and prawns together turned the table into basically a mini barbecue party lol

The prawns, shells golden and grilled, smelled great and had a springy bite — alternating between them and the eel kept things from getting repetitive, and we just inhaled the food.

How to enjoy the eel-loach soup

✔️Eel-loach soup. If you like chueotang (loach soup), definitely order this alongside your meal! The extra mini serving (₩3,000) comes in a small size, but since we're carb addicts we just went with the full meal option (₩11,000) haha

Mix in your rice and eat it like a boozy rice bowl.. as time passes the broth slowly soaks into the rice grains and gets nice and thick? This, guys — this is it;

It was so good we ordered another half portion of eel to grill on top. Ate it up neatly once again. Living a pig-diligent life~

How was it as a spot for company dinners and family gatherings near Yangjae Station?

Having the eel prepped and grilled fresh right in front of us really came through in how fresh the ingredients tasted, and having staff grill it for us made the whole meal so easy to enjoy. We went for eel and came out having had everything from eel juice to eel-loach soup — properly nourished(˵ ›⩊‹ ˵)❤ If you're looking for a hearty, restorative meal near Yangjae Station, or a spot for a family gathering or company dinner, I recommend Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel's Yangjae branch!
