Seongsu izakaya near Ttukseom for sashimi and cream jjamppong: Jindoken

In short

Jindoken Seongsu Branch is a Japanese-style pub in Seongdong, Seoul, near Ttukseom Station. On a return visit, I had assorted sashimi, cream jjamppong, draft beer, and a blue lemon highball by the open kitchen. Verdict: a great stop for drinks and snacks after browsing Seongsu pop-ups.

Jindoken Seongsu Branch hours and parking information

I revisited Jindoken Seongsu Branch after making the rounds of Seongsu pop-ups. It is a 15-minute walk from Seongsu Station Exit 4, or just 3 minutes from Ttukseom Station Exit 7. At the intersection where Hanyang House comes into view, look left for the beige Hanyang Rice Mill building, then head up to the second floor.

Bar-counter seating and open-kitchen atmosphere

The soft lighting makes for a cozy atmosphere. Along with regular tables, there is a long bar counter.

The bar faces the open kitchen, making it feel like you have stepped into a Japanese izakaya (Japanese-style pub). Solo visitors can enjoy a drink alone, and the counter is great for couples too, haha. It is also fun to watch the flashy flames when they make charcoal-grilled dishes or jjamppong.

Assorted sashimi at Jindoken Seongsu Branch

The must-order item at Jindoken, this Seongsu drinking spot, is the assorted sashimi! It was so delicious on my last visit too that I find myself thinking about it now and then, haha.

Assorted sashimi ordered on a return visit

You can taste seasonal seafood and rich sashimi, including tuna, salmon, abalone, mackerel, and sea bream.

The salmon had lovely little streaks of fat and was delicious. The abalone was tender and chewy too—perfect with salt.

The mackerel seaweed maki was insanely good, hahaha. I wanted to order it separately as its own dish.

Cream jjamppong with seafood and noodles

Cream jjamppong at Jindoken Seongsu Branch

I fell for the Nagasaki jjamppong broth last time, so today I ordered the cream jjamppong. Shrimp, mussels, squid, and other seafood sit in the pale creamy broth, drizzled with chili oil.

Best of all, noodles are included. Once the pot starts boiling, add the noodles a little at a time.

It is like a fancy version of Nipong Naepong's cream jjamppong!!!! The Cheongyang chilies keep it from feeling heavy, and it is genuinely delicious cream jjamppong, hahaha.

Partway through the meal, we received chicken-cartilage karaage on the house.

Chicken-cartilage karaage has that appealing pleasantly chewy texture. Dipping it in mayonnaise immediately made me want a beer.

We ended up ordering more drinks too, hahaha.

This Seongsu drinking spot is always delicious whenever I visit. The assorted sashimi and cream jjamppong were the best dishes, and if you are stopping by Seongsu-dong pop-ups, Jindoken is perfect for dinner with drinks and snacks!
