I heard there was a ring-making workshop in Seongsu with absolutely no extra charges, where even the gemstones are included in the set price, so off we went. It was genuinely easy enough for a fifth-grade child to make a ring! And the included stone is not just cubic zirconia—it is moissanite, a diamond-like gemstone said to be indistinguishable from diamond by a machine! Let’s begin my story of Robenta Seongsu, where I was so pleased by that next-level sparkle!

Robenta Seongsu is a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Seongsu Station! It is in an area full of pop-ups, so the location was just perfect.

Finding the third-floor workshop

It is on the third floor of the building with NOT4NERD on the first floor. Enter through the Sanbyeot Real Estate entrance on the right side of the building.

Choosing a design

These are not designs you see everywhere—they are a lineup personally designed by a professional designer with 30 years of jewelry-making experience. You can see a wide range of designs on the website. Every single one has such an exceptionally sophisticated feel. They would even work as wedding rings.

There were so many pretty choices that my child kept going back and forth. The design we finally chose?! This one. Isn’t it so luxurious and pretty? The sparkling stone is not cubic zirconia but moissanite! Most workshops set cubic zirconia as the standard stone, but this place uses moissanite, which they say cannot be distinguished from diamond even by a machine. The sparkle really is different in person!

I have visited a few ring workshops with my child, and usually the total shoots up once you get there and add gemstones or choose this and that. At Robenta, the gemstone cost and VAT are all included in the fixed price, so you can choose while looking at the price from the start and make your ring comfortably for exactly the price you first saw.

After choosing the design, you put on the apron and gloves at the workstation and begin making your ring in earnest!

How do you measure ring size?

The incredibly kind instructor came over at every step and helped us one by one. First, they measured the ring size.

Smoothing the surface and edges with a flat file

Using a flat, level file, you file the outside surface and inner edge of the ring. The instructor demonstrated first every time, so it was not difficult to do.

Making it smooth with a half-round file and sanding stick

With a half-round file that is curved on one side, you file the inside and curved sections of the ring. That is what makes it feel smooth when you wear it on your finger! Once the filing is done, you rub it over with a tool wrapped in sandpaper.

Polishing with a handpiece

Once the shaping is done, you use a handpiece, a spinning jewelry tool, to bring a luminous shine to the dull silver surface! It is the most fun part! Because the handpiece spins quickly and can make the ring warm, you need to let it cool down now and then as you work!

Once we had finished polishing, the instructor took the ring away to attach the moissanite and tidy up the finish once more. It takes about an hour, so you can visit nearby pop-ups in the meantime and come pick it up when they call.

We chose a green case and a white handbag-shaped shopping bag. Usually things like these cost extra, but the Robenta Seongsu ring workshop provided everything as a service, which I loved!

Wow... isn’t it truly so luxurious and pretty? I would have believed it was a ring bought from a department-store brand!

It was so neatly and perfectly finished that I found myself wondering, did my child really make this alone? It was incredibly smooth to the touch, without a single rough spot. Above all, the moissanite—which cannot be identified as different from diamond even by a machine—sparkled so luminously and beautifully.
