Parking at Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap: easy in a rental car?

Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap has a spacious parking lot right in front of the restaurant. Parking was actually what I liked most about the place! Since almost everyone gets around Jeju by rental car, parking quietly matters a lot when hunting down good restaurants, and here I walked in without any parking worries!

The basic banchan and what is on the self-serve bar

The basic banchan (side dishes) came in quite a variety, too. Kimchi, salad, gim (seaweed), pickled vegetables, tofu — a full spread was laid out, and that wasn't even the end of it.

There's a separate self-serve bar for extra banchan set up on one side of the restaurant! If you run low on any side dish while eating, you just help yourself. From pickles to salad — good for cleansing the palate — there were plenty of options to grab as much as you needed.

There was even a meat side dish set out separately. Doing a lap of the self-serve bar before the main dish arrives makes you want to pile your plate with everything haha. But if you're ordering the mackerel kimchi stew set plus cutlet like we did, don't overload your plate from the start — once the main dishes arrive, the portions are surprisingly huge.

There was sikhye (sweet rice drink) and abalone porridge too.

The banchan spread was seriously generous!

Ssam vegetables were also set out at the self-serve bar! Lettuce, perilla leaves, napa cabbage, plus chili and garlic — perfect for wrapping around the mackerel kimchi stew. Being able to refill both banchan and ssam vegetables unlimited was one of the standout perks of Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap.

We ordered the set that comes with both mackerel kimchi stew and abalone hot-pot rice, three servings!

The interior is really spacious, right!

Black pork cutlet: the pick for anyone who skips fish

And then the black pork cutlet we ordered separately! It might seem odd ordering cutlet at a place that specializes in fish, but when you're traveling as a group, there's usually at least one person who isn't a big fan of fish. This was a solid option for that situation haha.

Separately ordered black pork cutlet plate

Above all, the cutlet was thicker than I expected. It wasn't just a thick breading — the meat itself had real substance, giving it a satisfying bite, and the outside was crispy. Really tasty!

How the mackerel kimchi stew and abalone hot-pot rice set tasted

And then the main event arrived! The mackerel kimchi stew looked the part right away. Chunky, well-fermented kimchi blanketed the mackerel, with a shallow layer of red broth underneath — the kind of visual that makes you immediately crave rice!

The deeply fermented old kimchi was a genuine rice-thief! Tear off a strip of kimchi, top it with a piece of mackerel, eat it with rice — that's exactly the flavor you're picturing!

The abalone hot-pot rice that came with the set was great too. Instead of plain steamed rice, getting hot-pot rice alongside makes the whole meal feel much more complete!

Abalone hot-pot rice served as part of the set

Abalone and various other ingredients were layered on top of the rice — mixed well while still hot and eaten alongside the mackerel kimchi stew, it paired really well.

And finally, the scorched rice at the end!

It's close to Jungmun Tourist Complex, so it's easy to stop by before or after sightseeing, and the wide parking lot out front made it especially convenient traveling by rental car!

The mackerel kimchi stew plus abalone hot-pot rice set we had was a great combo of old kimchi and mackerel, perfect for finishing a whole bowl of rice, and with extra banchan and ssam vegetables available from the self-serve bar, we ate plenty haha. The surprise find was the black pork cutlet! Thick and crispy, it was a good one to order alongside the mackerel and share among a group.
