Jeju matcha rocher pound cake at a Namwon forest café: Monocle Jeju
In short
Monocle Jeju is a Blue Ribbon dessert café set in the forest along Taewi-ro in Namwon, Seogwipo, Jeju. The organic Jeju matcha rocher pound cake and the flour-free sweet pumpkin cheesecake, tasted alongside a Jeju matcha latte and a caffe latte, stood out most for the way matcha's bitterness met the sweetness of chocolate. I heard about a Jeju café that has consistently received a Blue Ribbon since 2020, so I went to check it out haha. It's a place where you can even try desserts made with healthy ingredients — 'Monocle Jeju'.
What kind of café is Monocle Jeju? A Blue Ribbon café in the Namwon forest
Monocle

It's a café located in Nawon with the charming feel of stepping into a forest!! It's surrounded by lush green trees, so even before entering I already felt a relaxed, calm atmosphere haha. If you're looking for a quiet café to rest at while traveling in Jeju, this seems like a great spot to stop by.

It's a café that's consistently received a Blue Ribbon since 2020, so I had even higher expectations! It's a great place to visit when you want to enjoy delicious desserts and coffee together in Jeju. Since it's set in the forest rather than feeling like a typical tourist spot, I could really feel Jeju's laid-back atmosphere haha.

Inside Monocle Jeju: atmosphere and seating
The interior was clean and bigger than I expected, so it was comfortable to stay a while. Overall the space felt tidy and uncluttered, and the tables were spaced generously enough that sitting there felt relaxing! With the natural scenery visible through the windows added in, I could feel Jeju's distinct atmosphere even indoors haha.

What's in the Monocle Jeju bakery case?
All the baked goods were made and sold in-house. There was a wide variety of freshly-baked-looking breads and desserts, which made it fun to browse, and each one was beautifully presented!!

There were various kinds of cakes, scones, madeleines, and pound cakes haha. Among them we ordered the sweet pumpkin cheesecake, the organic Jeju matcha rocher pound cake, a caffe latte, and a Jeju matcha latte. Since there were desserts made with ingredients you can only find in Jeju, I was excited to see what they'd taste like!

The visuals were so pretty haha! The desserts and drinks all came out with lovely colors, so they were great for photos too. The plates and cups matched the café's calm mood well, so the plating felt clean and emotive.

How does the flour-free sweet pumpkin cheesecake taste?
Monocle Jeju's sweet pumpkin cheesecake has pumpkin on top of the cheesecake, so it looked appetizing just to see!!! The first bite gives the soft, dense texture typical of cheesecake, then the mild sweetness of the pumpkin naturally rises up. The pumpkin isn't just plain sweet — it has a clean, nutty flavor that paired really well with the cheesecake haha.

I liked it even more knowing it's made with 0% flour and Jeju-grown pumpkin. The texture was moist yet dense, melting softly in the mouth, and the cheese's rich flavor wasn't overwhelming. The pumpkin's cozy, sweet flavor matched well with the cheesecake's nutty, creamy taste, making it hard to stop eating. The sweetness wasn't overpowering, so it was perfect to pair with coffee!

Organic Jeju matcha rocher pound cake: a must if you love matcha
The organic Jeju matcha rocher pound cake is apparently made with organic matcha grown in Seongeup, Jeju haha. Maybe because it uses Jeju-grown matcha, I could taste a subtle yet deep matcha aroma, and the characteristic bitterness of matcha was quite distinct too!!

The texture was dense and heavy, but since the outside was coated in chocolate, you could taste both the matcha's bitterness and the chocolate's sweetness together!! After the rich, bitter matcha flavor, the chocolate's soft sweetness followed, and the combination worked better than I expected haha. If you love matcha, this is a menu item I'd especially recommend since you can really taste its deep flavor!

Jeju matcha latte and caffe latte at Monocle Jeju
The matcha latte also used Jeju matcha, so it had a sweet yet bitter matcha flavor! It was subtly sweet at first, then the characteristic bitterness of matcha came up toward the end, finishing cleanly. I'd recommend this one too if you like matcha!

The caffe latte had a nutty, smooth taste, so it was good to drink alongside the desserts haha. Even with rich-flavored desserts like the pumpkin cheesecake or the matcha pound cake, the flavors didn't clash and paired cleanly together.

Outdoor seats and the verdict on Monocle Jeju
They also have seats like this outside, so visiting in spring or fall would be great for enjoying the outdoors leisurely. On a nice day, you could enjoy coffee and dessert while looking at the greenery, which would give a different vibe from the indoors! If you want to eat healthy but delicious desserts, I'd totally recommend Monocle Jeju!! It was so good I want to go back, and the place itself was so pretty haha. If you're heading to Nawon in Jeju, be sure to stop by~!
