Hyehwa theater for long-term couples' date night: Suspicious PT Shop

I went to see a play in Hyehwa after a long while :) This time I caught Suspicious PT Shop: The Hot Edition, an adult play (19+) running at Nine Theater on Daehak-ro. Honestly, when I heard it was an adult play, I figured it would just be a normal adult comedy, but the content was way higher than I expected, haha. So today I'm leaving my honest review for anyone looking for Daehak-ro play recommendations or wanting a slightly different date in Hyehwa!!

Where is Nine Theater? Walking from Hyehwa Station

Suspicious PT Shop is playing at Nine Theater, located at 30 Daehak-ro8ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's about 133m from Hyehwa Station Exit 1, so it was really easy to get to by subway.

We also came out of Hyehwa Station Exit 1 and walked over — it's basically right there, so finding it was no trouble at all. It's a great location for planning a date around Daehak-ro, like seeing a play and then grabbing food or coffee nearby.

Nine Theater has a space to wait before entering the theater, and it was nicely decorated like a café, which I liked.

There's also a dedicated photo zone, so it was nice to take pictures before the show started.

There's also self-serve water and a coffee machine, so even if you arrive a bit early, you can wait comfortably!!

Are the seats comfortable? Almost like movie theater chairs

The seats at Nine Theater are so comfortable! 🪑 You know how it is at Daehak-ro theaters — usually super cramped, seats all squished together? This place has basically movie theater seats..!

Thanks to that, I watched the whole thing in total comfort!!

What kind of show is Suspicious PT Shop: The Hot Edition?

The show I watched was Suspicious PT Shop: The Hot Edition! Since it features real adult actors in an adult comedy play, the vibe was definitely different from a typical Daehak-ro play.

I was especially curious because this show is apparently a sequel to Suspicious Hair Salon!!

You could even see a notice about the audience member who's watched it the most times ever!!

The story behind Suspicious PT Shop

The story begins when Seonghee, a former Muscle Mania figure grand prix champion, teams up with skilled trainer Sujin to open a PT (personal training) gym in the neighborhood. Then Hyukjin and Junsoo, two beginner members who'd only ever done home workouts, come to the gym to properly learn how to exercise. As the two male members and two female trainers meet, all sorts of unexpected situations unfold.

Overall, it's less a play you watch seriously and more an adult comedy where you just relax and laugh at the actors' performances and the situations themselves!

How the mood builds before the show even starts

Before the show starts, a staff member comes out to give a brief introduction to the play and exchange questions with the audience to loosen things up. There was also a simple audience participation game, which was funnier than I expected, haha.

There's time for the audience to actually participate, so any awkwardness melts away well before the show begins. If you take part, you can even get a small gift, so it was great even before the show started!!

How explicit is this 19+ play?

This is probably the part everyone searching for Suspicious PT Shop is most curious about — the content level. Honestly, it was higher than I expected. I think it might be the highest content level in Korea..! I knew it was 19+ going in, but I thought, 'still, it's a play, how much could it really show?'

But seeing it in person, it was extremely bold!! I was a little taken aback at first, haha.

So personally, I think this is a better play for long-term couples or married couples than for couples who just started dating. Since we're a long-term couple too, we watched it comfortably, laughing without worrying much about each other. Couples early in dating might find it a bit embarrassing, but for long-term couples, this kind of unusual date could actually be really fun.

So I'd like to recommend this to long-term couples, friends, or married couples looking for Hyehwa play recommendations!! Also, the actresses are so pretty..! As a woman myself, I thought they were really gorgeous.
