Brunch café near Ulsan City Hall: sandwiches and tea at Benetto

In short

Benetto (베네또) is a brunch café near Ulsan City Hall that says it makes its own sandwiches, granola, and herbal tea. My older sister and I tried the jambon burrata sandwich, barbecue chicken grilled sandwich, and Summer Apple tea, and the generous fillings and contrasting textures stood out. My favorite pairing was the sweet, nutty jambon burrata sandwich with the herbal and apple notes of Summer Apple.

My older sister and I had an errand at Ulsan City Hall and stopped by Benetto (베네또), a nearby brunch café. Its red brick exterior and yellow sign caught my eye. It was around 3 p.m. and we were feeling peckish, so we ordered two sandwiches and drinks.

Was the jambon burrata sandwich salty?

The jambon burrata sandwich had plenty of ham tucked into chewy bread. Soft burrata cheese and nutty homemade granola added a lovely mix of textures.

The richness of the cheese was joined by sweet honey and a subtle cinnamon aroma. I was told the cinnamon came from the granola. I usually enjoy cinnamon, so it suited my taste well. With so much ham, I wondered whether it would be salty, but it didn't taste salty to me.

How were the bread and fillings in the barbecue chicken sandwich?

The barbecue chicken grilled sandwich came on focaccia (Italian flatbread), toasted to order and served warm, with generous amounts of barbecue chicken, grilled vegetables, and cheese.

The bread was crisp outside and soft inside, and the barbecue chicken had a distinct, rich aroma. The cherry tomatoes served alongside it were tasty too. I wondered whether they had been peeled and seasoned, but I didn't confirm how they were prepared.

What does Summer Apple taste like, and does it suit the sandwiches?

I chose Summer Apple because it was described as a signature drink. On the first sip, I noticed fragrant herbs, followed by a gentle apple aroma.

There were small apple pieces in the tea, giving me something to chew between sips. I assumed the tea bag was a commercial product, but I was told the owner blended the herbs personally.

Drinking it with the sweet, nutty jambon burrata sandwich left my mouth feeling refreshed. Of everything we tried, the jambon burrata and Summer Apple pairing suited my taste especially well.
