Gijang restaurant with multilingual kiosk and kids' menu: Dongam

In short

Dongam Tteokgalbi is a tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) set-meal restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building on Gijanghaean-ro in Gijang, Busan. On an Ilgwang drive, the writer stopped in with her mother and ordered cheese tteokgalbi for 18,000 won and Dongam tteokgalbi for 15,000 won, served with pot rice, crab doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and side dishes from the self-bar. With a multilingual kiosk and a kids' menu, Dongam Tteokgalbi is an easy Gijang lunch spot for families and foreign visitors alike.

What kind of restaurant is Dongam Tteokgalbi in Gijang?

Today I went out to Gijang with my mom and stopped by Dongam Tteokgalbi. We were on an Ilgwang drive course and debating what to eat when we ended up here — and turns out Gijang is loved even more by foreigners and out-of-towners than by locals from Busan itself. Maybe that's why so many families come through. Let me introduce Dongam Tteokgalbi in Gijang, famous for its tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty). If you're looking for a Gijang lunch spot, or a Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa, pay attention!!

Where is Dongam Tteokgalbi? On the road to Haedong Yonggungsa

Dongam Tteokgalbi sits right on the way to Haedong Yonggungsa, so it's easy to swing by for a light lunch. Gijang has a lot to see and do — Lotte Outlet Gijang, Haedong Yonggungsa, and the luge — so if you're visiting several of those spots, this place is conveniently placed for families too. A relaxed choice for a Gijang lunch.

Finding the entrance: Dongam Tteokgalbi is on the 3rd floor

Dongam Tteokgalbi is on the 3rd floor of the building. The 1st floor has other shops, and the 2nd floor has a shabu-shabu place I want to try next time!!

Banyan Tree Haeundae is right nearby, and you can see it far off in the distance — the amusement park!! Right in the heart of Gijang.

Sign with the shop's motto at the entrance of Dongam Tteokgalbi

'A place where the sincerity of one meal becomes a memory' — Dongam Tteokgalbi: a healthy set meal, a table made with a warm heart, prepared fresh every morning.

Maybe because of that motto, the menu itself and the side dishes both felt generous and clean overall.

Inside Dongam Tteokgalbi: window seats and coastal views

If you visit Dongam Tteokgalbi, definitely grab a window seat!! Though families with babies seemed to prefer the chair seating over the sofa seats — easier for them, I guess. The open view was so nice that my mom and I ate by the window. Usually tables this big are reserved for large groups elsewhere, but they seated just the two of us there without any issue.

'72-hour wait' phrase displayed inside the restaurant

'A value beyond one meal — a 72-hour wait' — that's the shop's motto on display.

Since a lot of foreign visitors come here, you can feel touches of Korean beauty all around the interior.

Prices and ordering at the multilingual kiosk

Ordering is entirely done through a kiosk. There's a language switch button too, so foreign visitors can order comfortably.

Prices generally run about ₩10,000–20,000. They also have a separate kids' menu, so traveling families can enjoy the meal without much burden. Maybe that's why there were so many little diners around (it being vacation season probably had something to do with it too). If you're after a Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa, this could be your pick!!

What we ordered: cheese tteokgalbi and Dongam tteokgalbi

The basic table setting that comes out first is already generous with side dishes, and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) comes standard too. We ordered cheese tteokgalbi (₩18,000) and Dongam tteokgalbi (₩15,000) — next time I'd like to try the cheongyang chili cream tteokgalbi too.

Two set meals of cheese tteokgalbi and Dongam tteokgalbi

The rice comes out as pot rice, and you scoop out as much as you want — so clean!! The doenjang jjigae has crab in it too, giving the broth a nice depth.

See this!! There's also a self-bar for extra side dishes, with a wider variety than what comes standard — and as someone with a kid's palate, I couldn't resist. Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), sausages, fried rice, steamed egg, and more.

Who should eat at Dongam Tteokgalbi?

Dongam Tteokgalbi was our stop for a meal on a long-overdue trip to Gijang with my mom. It's a great spot for travelers visiting Lotte Outlet Gijang, Haedong Yonggungsa, or Gijang Ananti, eating with kids in tow. The menu is easy to enjoy without any pressure, and the food comes out clean and well put together — good for family meals or for anyone wanting pot rice after touring Haedong Yonggungsa. With dishes older folks would like and options kids can enjoy too, it was a solid place to bring my parents along for a meal. If you're in Gijang and want somewhere relaxed and easy for a family meal, I recommend Dongam Tteokgalbi.
