A neighborhood mom told me there was a great pizza place near Mapo Station, and I'd been curious about Raccoon Pizza ever since. She said the cheese-loaded pizza was good and the chicken wasn't bad either, so when I had a dinner plan come up, I went to check it out.

Since I was already there, I ordered a bunch of the menu items I'd been curious about: the Raccoon Cheese Waterfall pizza, margherita pizza, and American-style crispy hot chicken.
Once I actually tasted it, I understood why she recommended it. 🍕🍗
An easy pizza restaurant to drop by near Mapo Station
Raccoon Pizza's Mapo Station branch is right near Mapo Station, so it wasn't hard to find. The place had a more comfortable vibe than I expected, and it was a nice spot to sit and talk for a while over pizza.

Unlike pizza you only ever get delivered or take out, eating it fresh and warm right at the restaurant definitely feels different. That day, instead of ordering just one thing, we tried several dishes together. It's quite a generous amount for two people, so it seems better suited for a group to share.

What is the Raccoon Cheese Waterfall pizza like?
The one I was most curious about that day was the Raccoon Cheese Waterfall pizza. With a name like "cheese waterfall," I wondered just how much cheese there'd be — and seeing it in person, it really was piled on generously.

Picking up a slice while it was still warm, the cheese stretched long, and the edges had golden-browned cheese stuck to them. The first bite hit with that savory, salty cheese flavor right away. I'm someone who likes plenty of cheese on my pizza, so this was very much to my taste.

What I liked especially was that the cheese wasn't just in the middle — it was baked all the way to the edges, so the texture shifted little by little as you worked through a slice. That said, since it's such a cheese-heavy pizza, it was better paired with a different flavor rather than eaten on its own. That's why we also ordered the margherita.
The margherita pizza: clean and easy to keep eating
If the Cheese Waterfall pizza is rich, the margherita is on the lighter, cleaner side. With just tomato sauce, cheese and basil on top, the flavor isn't complicated at all. After a slice of the Cheese Waterfall pizza, eating the margherita felt noticeably different.
Rich cheese flavor → the bright taste of tomato sauce. Alternating between the two, I didn't get tired of either as quickly as I expected. If you had to pick just one, it'd come down to preference, but if you're going with a group, I'd recommend ordering both and sharing — some people love cheese, others prefer something lighter. Above all, trying all three dishes together that day was great because none of the flavors overlapped.
American-style crispy hot chicken, the side we kept reaching for
And the dish that surprised me most was the American-style crispy hot chicken. At first I only added it because ordering just pizza felt like it wasn't quite enough, but once I actually tried it, I found myself reaching for it more often than expected.

The batter was crispy, giving a great texture with each bite, while the chicken inside stayed tender. It also had a slight kick of spice, which went well alongside the pizza.

Eating pizza continuously can leave your mouth feeling heavy from all the cheese, but tossing in a piece of crispy chicken in between felt like switching to a whole different flavor. Personally, I really liked the combination of pizza and hot chicken together — and it went great with beer or soda, too.
Looking for a pizza restaurant near Mapo Station?
Of the three dishes we tried that day, the Raccoon Cheese Waterfall pizza — the one whose name had me curious from the start — was the most memorable. If you love cheese, this is a menu item worth trying just for the visual, and the margherita was a nice clean palate reset in between all that rich cheese.

The American-style crispy hot chicken paired better with pizza than I expected. In the end, I understood exactly what that neighborhood mom meant when she said "the pizza's good and the chicken's not bad either." If you're looking for a place to eat pizza near Mapo Station, this is worth a visit — especially good when a group wants to share different pizzas along with a side. If I go back, I'd order the Cheese Waterfall pizza again and pick a different pizza to share alongside it. Raccoon Pizza's Mapo Station branch — went in with low expectations on a neighbor's tip, and ended up loving the whole menu combination.

A good spot to remember for the next time you're craving pizza near Mapo Station. 🍕
