Family-friendly brunch in Suwon: Nonchalant Lounge rose pasta

In short

Nonchalant Lounge is a brunch and Western restaurant in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. We had bisque rosé pasta, a chuck flap steak platter, and fresh ricotta salad in a roomy setting with high chairs and stroller-friendly tables. Verdict: a place worth revisiting for pasta in Haenggung-dong with a baby.

When you think of Haenggung-dong in Suwon, it really has that strong image of being a popular date spot, right? There are lots of pretty cafés and atmospheric restaurants, but taking a baby can be surprisingly nerve-racking. But Nonchalant Lounge (논샬랑라운지), where we went this time, felt a little different. There were more families with very young babies in strollers than I expected, and they had plenty of high chairs ready too. The moment we walked in, I thought, “Ah, we can eat here with a baby without feeling self-conscious haha.” It has a lovely atmosphere for a date, but it also works for family meals with a baby or brunch, and personally that was what I liked even more about it.

Every time I go to Haenggung-dong, parking is my biggest concern hahaha. Rather than a dedicated Nonchalant Lounge lot, it is more convenient to use one of the nearby public lots, and I parked at Jangan-dong Public Parking Lot (장안동공영주차장) and walked over. Apparently, people often use Jangan-dong Public Parking Lot or Hwahongmun Public Parking Lot too haha. I think it took about five minutes to walk from Jangan-dong Public Parking Lot to Nonchalant Lounge haha. And when I looked it up, I found out they may support up to two hours of public-parking fees on weekdays? Ugh, I saw that too late. Make sure you check, everyone.

A roomy Haenggung-dong Western restaurant for families with babies

I liked the atmosphere here too. In Haenggung-dong, there are lots of restaurants tucked into small alleys with just a few tables, but Nonchalant Lounge feels more spacious than expected inside. The wood tones and vintage décor make it feel great for brunch in the daytime, then like a nice place for a glass of wine or beer in the evening? Hehe.

The space is large, the tables are nicely spaced out, and it is clean and atmospheric haha. So it would suit couples looking for a pasta date spot in Haenggung-dong, but when I visited, there were really lots of family groups too.

Some people were coming in with strollers, and plenty of tables had young babies. Best of all, there were lots of high chairs. It can be awkward when you take your child to a pretty restaurant and its one high chair is already being used at another table, right? Haha. Here, guests with children clearly were not unusual, so I could eat much more comfortably too.

Isn’t the atmosphere seriously so pretty?? The furniture arrangement and colors were totally my style. How should I put it—Europe inside Haenggung-dong...? That kind of vibe. Even the restroom was pretty haha. It was clean and smelled nice, which I loved.

The three dishes we ordered at Nonchalant Lounge

Pasta and steak dishes ordered at Nonchalant Lounge

We ordered bisque rosé pasta for ₩19,000, a chuck flap steak platter for ₩37,000, and fresh ricotta salad for ₩11,000! With all three together, the pasta + steak + salad combination was just right.

Fresh ricotta salad: a good side dish

Fresh ricotta salad, ₩11,000. It is a salad with house-made ricotta cheese, vegetables, and fruit. It was not quite at the level of “Wow, I have to come back just for this!” haha, but it was a reliably tasty salad. Steak and pasta alone can feel a little heavy, so having ricotta and vegetables between bites made for a good combination haha. For preventing that heavy feeling. If you order several dishes to share like I did, it is a decent one to add on!

Bisque rosé pasta, unlike a thick and creamy rosé

First, the bisque rosé pasta I was most curious about, ₩19,000. They say it is made with a long-simmered seafood base, shrimp meat, and tomatoes. But when I tried it, it was quite different from the thick, creamy rosé pasta I normally picture. At first I was almost like, “Huh? This is rosé?” haha. Rather than the cream heavily coating everything, it tasted a little oilier and lighter to me.

But I actually liked that more. Thick rosé can be delicious for the first few bites but become cloying quickly, whereas this one had that seafood savoriness and was relatively easy to eat through to the end. It has a stronger seafood flavor and umami than typical rosé, with a slight kick haha. If you expect conventional thick cream rosé, it may feel a little different, but that was exactly why I liked it even more.

Garlic rice that went well with the steak

We also added garlic rice as a side. At first, I ordered it just to have some rice alongside everything, but the garlic aroma was better than expected. It was not the kind that hits you with an aggressively strong garlic flavor; instead, the rice had a subtle, savory garlic fragrance, making it perfect with the steak. Especially with a little sauce on the chuck flap steak and the garlic rice together—the combination was pretty good haha. It was also nice to take a bite of rice here and there between the pasta.

When I tried it, it was not very spicy or intensely seasoned, so I think it would not be bad to share with a child who is okay with a little garlic flavor. Every child has different tastes, though, so it would be best to let them try a little first!

Chuck flap steak platter with memorable butter galbi sauce

Chuck flap steak platter, ₩37,000. This comes with chuck flap steak and grilled vegetables: prime-grade chuck flap, grilled vegetables, Maldon salt, and butter galbi sauce. What I especially liked was the butter galbi sauce. The meat was good with just a little salt, but eating it with the sauce really brought out the umami.

It was a nice dish to order and share when two pasta dishes alone feel a bit lacking. The chuck flap was tender, and it went quite well with the grilled vegetables. For a date, one pasta, one steak, and wine or beer on the side would be perfect too.

A menu for brunch through evening drinks

Nonchalant Lounge brunch and dinner menu

The menu is more varied than expected, so it works from brunch through evening drinks. Classic carbonara ₩15,000, basil tomato pasta ₩15,000, chicken-thigh Alfredo cream pasta ₩18,000, bisque rosé pasta ₩19,000, truffle bulgogi risotto ₩18,000, crispy thin pizza ₩18,000, open sandwich ₩10,000, house-made jambon sandwich ₩13,000, fresh ricotta salad ₩11,000, shrimp salad ₩12,000, chuck flap steak platter ₩37,000, homemade meatballs with French baguette ₩23,000, mushroom soup ₩8,000, and truffle fries ₩12,000.

Drinks include black coffee ₩4,000, white coffee ₩5,000, ade ₩6,000, freshly squeezed orange juice ₩6,500, and their signature lightly frozen lemon draft beer ₩5,500. It is not just a pasta place—there are sandwiches, salads, and coffee too—so it looks like a good option for anyone seeking brunch in Haenggung-dong haha.

Why it worked for both dates and family meals

Space suited to Haenggung-dong dates and family meals
A comfortable meal at Nonchalant Lounge with a baby

Before going, I only saw photos and thought it looked completely like a Haenggung-dong date-night restaurant. And yes, the atmosphere really is great for a date. But after actually going, what stayed with me more was, “This place is pretty good with a baby?” There were many family groups, so it did not feel like you had to worry if your child moved around a little. Families with strollers were eating naturally, and there were plenty of high chairs too.

So if you are looking for a good restaurant in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, but have hesitated about a Western restaurant because of your child, it might be worth saving. Haha. You can come for a date, brunch, or a family meal with your child. The bisque rosé pasta especially stayed with me because it was different from the rosé I knew. If you like something a little oilier and packed with umami rather than thick rosé pasta, give it a try. And if you are driving, check Jangan-dong Public Parking Lot + whether parking support is available! When I want to eat pasta comfortably with a baby in Haenggung-dong, this is a place I would revisit :)
