We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered generously: minari octopus, minari pork jowl, sweet and sour pork, black sesame salad, and a cold drink to go with it all.

First, the minari pork jowl had tender pork jowl piled high with fresh minari (water dropwort) on top, and the more you chewed, the nuttier and more fragrant it got — seriously good.

The texture was soft and just melted in the mouth. I was so hungry that day, I think we finished it in about 5 minutes flat as soon as it arrived. And the minari octopus was spicy yet chewy octopus paired with crunchy minari — the greens tempered the heat a bit, and it was better than I expected!!!

True to its reputation as a top spot in Ansan Jungang-dong, a whole bowl of rice disappeared in no time. My mom and I each picked something new to try today, and as always, both were absolute winners.

Black sesame salad and guobaorou sweet and sour pork

The black sesame salad's rich, nutty dressing perked up our appetite, and the sweet and sour pork — crispy outside, tender inside, the textbook version — was sweet and tangy enough that I kept reaching for more. Nothing beats a salad for cleansing the palate. The vegetables were fresh, the dressing was tasty, and it was the perfect finish!

It was a lineup worthy of the title of a top restaurant near Ansan Jungang Station. And you know you always have to order the sweet and sour pork, right?! The one here is moist yet crispy, with just the right ratio of meat to glutinous rice inside — delicious.

The side dishes were also neatly arranged and self-refillable, so you can enjoy the meal from start to finish. The seaweed soup was a winner too!

Dongyang Sotbap Ansan Main Branch uses top-grade domestic Golden Queen Suhyangmi rice and cooks the pot rice fresh as soon as you order, they told me.
