Dongyang Sotbap in Jungang-dong, Ansan: the brand's main branch

Hi, this is Soy. Today I'm introducing Dongyang Sotbap, located in Jungang-dong, Ansan. Dongyang Sotbap has 18 branches nationwide, and did you know Ansan is actually the flagship location? On top of that, they just opened a branch in Taiwan! Seeing a Korean pot rice restaurant that started in Ansan spread overseas makes me weirdly proud haha 🥺🇰🇷

Self-serve bar with side dishes and scorched-rice water

Self-serve bar. You can freely take extra side dishes from the self-serve bar. There's kimchi, pickled vegetables, salted squid, and even warm scorched-rice water to drink. There's scorched rice next to the water too.

Napkins, wet wipes, and toothpicks are also set up in one corner.

Dongyang Sotbap menu and prices

Dongyang Sotbap has Korean, Japanese, and Chinese menus, plus special items, recommended dishes, and a variety of side dishes. It's really put together so you can pick according to your taste. Prices range from ₩9,000–19,000, so it's affordable enough for students to grab a meal without worrying about the cost. All menu items are available for delivery and takeout — takeout orders use special pot-rice containers, so there's an extra ₩2,000 packaging fee.

How spicy is the new spicy pork neck pot rice?

Spicy pork neck pot rice. Dongyang Sotbap gives you a free seaweed soup with any pot rice order. I tried the newly released spicy pork neck pot rice. The pork neck is grilled directly over open flame with added spice, so you get smoky char flavor and heat at the same time. You can't adjust the spice level, but it's not extremely spicy either — even people who aren't great with spicy food could handle it fine 🌶️

What does the dongpo pork pot rice taste like?

Dongpo pork pot rice reinterprets traditional dongpo pork (braised pork belly) by grilling smoked whole pork belly with 13 kinds of spices to keep the texture. It has a different, springier meat texture from the flame-grilled pork neck. This was my first time having dongpo pork as a rice bowl, and the salty seasoning went surprisingly well with the rice! It has a different charm from eating it with flower buns.

Three sides: pork cutlet, spicy yurinji and menbosha shrimp toast

Dongyang pork cutlet, spicy yurinji. The side menu items are cheap enough to add that we ended up adding three of them haha 🐽 The pork cutlet was super crispy and really tasty! The spicy yurinji sauce is sweet and spicy, which really wakes up your appetite, and it's even better with the fresh cabbage.

Crispy fried mandu (fried shrimp toast)

Mandu. And out of the three sides, the one I enjoyed most was the mandu (fried shrimp toast) 🦐 The crispy coating with the springy filling inside was totally my style! Promise me you'll order mandu when you come to Dongyang Sotbap 🤙🏻

If you're looking for a good value pot rice restaurant, I recommend Dongyang Sotbap Ansan Main Branch!
