Songjeong Chinese restaurant macaron mangboosha: Songjeong Dol

In short

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is a stone-plate jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles) restaurant on Songjeonggwanggeogol-ro in Haeundae, Busan. Arriving at peak time, the writer ordered the regular stone-plate jajangmyeon for two, aged glutinous rice mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and macaron mangboosha (4 pieces), and the noodles stayed springy on the hot stone with scorched rice to scrape from the bottom. Sitting near the entrance to Songjeong Beach, Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is an easy family meal or date dinner before or after the sea.

🍽️🔥 I finally made it to Songjeong Dol Jjamppong, a stone-plate specialist that's extra special for being one of only three directly-run branches in the whole country! As a well-known spot in Songjeong, Haeundae, it turned out to be perfect for a family meal or a date. Here's my record of the overwhelming smoky flavor and generous seafood at Songjeong Dol Jjamppong 📝

What is the dining room at Songjeong Dol Jjamppong like?

Full view of the dining hall inside Songjeong Dol Jjamppong

The moment I stepped inside Songjeong Dol Jjamppong, the spacious, neatly arranged interior caught my eye! There was none of the usual greasy feel you get at typical Chinese restaurants — the atmosphere was really pleasant.

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong seating packed with customers during peak time

Even during a peak time packed with customers, the store was kept impressively clean, and the staff greeted us kindly, so I sat down in a good mood! 👥

Aprons set out beside the register

There were plenty of aprons set out by the register, so be sure to grab one before eating so nothing splashes on your clothes!

While reading the origin-labeling sign on the wall, I burst out laughing at how witty the wording was 🤣 That little bit of humor made the wait for food fly by!

How to order, the basic sides and the self-bar

Since Songjeong Dol Jjamppong specializes in stone-plate jjamppong and jajangmyeon, the menu was mostly built around stone-plate dishes!

With a tablet kiosk installed at every table, I could take my time browsing the menu and handle ordering and prepayment all at once — super convenient 💳

Basic side dishes of pickled radish and onion

They set out pickled radish and onion as basic side dishes. The self-bar also has green onion kimchi and black bean sauce ready to go, so if you love green onion kimchi, pile some on and pair it with your jajangmyeon!

📄 What I ordered 🥢 Regular stone-plate jajangmyeon (2 servings) 🥩 Aged glutinous rice mini tangsuyuk 🍤 Macaron mangboosha (4 pieces)

Regular stone-plate jajangmyeon for two: smoky flavor and scorched rice

I agonized for ages between stone-plate jajangmyeon and stone-plate jjamppong, and ended up going with the jajangmyeon..!! And the visuals — what is this?! It came out sizzling on a huge stone plate, and the sheer size alone was overwhelming...... 💥

Regular stone-plate jajangmyeon for two sizzling on the stone plate

The stone-plate jajangmyeon can be adjusted from spice level 1 to 3, and there's a seafood add-on option too. Even in the base version, it's packed with squid, shrimp, and other seafood, so the smoky flavor and seafood came together beautifully 🦑

Stone-plate jajangmyeon noodles with squid and shrimp

Even on the scorching-hot stone plate, the noodles never went soggy — they stayed bouncy all the way through! The staff advised letting it simmer down for about 3 minutes before eating, and sure enough, after about 5 minutes the sauce had soaked deep into the noodles, getting richer and richer 😋

Once you've scooped up most of the noodles, there's scorched rice sitting at the bottom of the stone plate! Scrape it up with the spatula on the table and mix it with the sauce for another little delicacy 👍

Four pieces of macaron-shaped macaron mangboosha

How was the macaron mangboosha (4 pieces)?

Next up was the macaron mangboosha 🍤 True to its name, it's shaped like a cute macaron, but it was much bigger and plumper than I expected 😮

The moment I cut it in half with scissors, I could feel how packed it was with springy shrimp meat! The outside was crispy like a cracker and the inside was moist — a textbook case of crispy-outside, moist-inside...... ✨

Mangboosha cut in half alongside a spicy sauce

The spicy sauce served alongside completely cut through the characteristic richness of mangboosha, so I could enjoy it cleanly right down to the last bite! 🌶️

Aged glutinous rice mini tangsuyuk fresh out of the fryer

Aged glutinous rice mini tangsuyuk: mild enough for kids

The aged glutinous rice mini tangsuyuk came out fresh from the fryer! Even in a mini size, the portion was generous, and just by looking at it you could tell the batter was crispy and the meat was thick.

The meaty, satisfying texture felt like eating a premium pork cutlet. It was hands down the best tangsuyuk I've had recently...... 💯

The sauce was sweet with a savory depth that people of all ages seem to love without exception, so I'd recommend it as a family-dinner dish if you're visiting with kids! 🥩

I picked the grapefruit ade, and with handmade grapefruit syrup piled thick at the bottom of the glass, mixing it well made for a perfect dessert that cut right through the richness of the meal 🍊

Parking is free in front of the store and along the road in front of the building. If the lot happens to be full, parking on the shoulder is also fine ✨

Being so close to Songjeong Beach, it's a really convenient stop for a drive or a walk along the sea before or after. If you're in the mood for a generous, different kind of Chinese food, I'd recommend visiting this weekend with family or a partner! 💙
