Goseong seafood restaurant for thick sashimi takeout: Bongpo Hoega

I picked up a medium assorted sashimi platter from Bongpo Hoega (봉포 회가) in Goseong, Gangwon. I had originally wanted to eat the full table setting in the restaurant, but since we already had meat at the accommodation, I chose takeout this time.

Where is Bongpo Hoega, and is parking available?

The address is 69 Haksachon-gil, Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon State, South Korea. There was parking in front of the shop with its blue sign, and the owner was slicing sashimi on one side. The original post listed hours as 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM daily, with last orders at 8:00 PM.

I stopped by after swimming at Bongpo Beach just across the way, and there was a hose outside the shop for rinsing off.

When I went in at around 5 PM, there were already diners eating. Looking around the restaurant made me regret once again that I could not eat there.

There were separate restrooms for men and women inside, and they looked clean. However, since I had just been swimming, I did not use them because I was worried about making them dirty.

What are the assorted sashimi takeout prices and menu options?

The assorted sashimi came in four sizes, from small to extra-large. Flatfish sashimi and ingredients for spicy fish stew were also sold separately.

I ordered the medium assorted sashimi, for a total of ₩69,000. I picked it up and took it back to the accommodation.

How much was the medium size, and what came with it?

I opened the package as soon as I arrived at the accommodation. The sashimi was cut thick, and the presentation caught my eye as well. It felt like more than enough for two people.

I spread a pink tablecloth on the accommodation balcony and set out the assorted sashimi with Korean beef I had prepared beforehand. The Korean beef was not part of the takeout package from the restaurant.

The package included garlic, chili peppers, wasabi, ssamjang (fermented soybean dipping paste), white kimchi, chojang (sweet-and-tangy red chili dipping sauce), lettuce, and perilla leaves. The wrap vegetables and condiments were packed carefully, so I could eat them in several combinations.

How did the assorted sashimi taste at the accommodation?

I ate on the accommodation balcony overlooking the sea, listening to the waves. Dining in the sea breeze became a memorable part of this vacation.

There was Korean beef as well, but I reached for the sashimi first. I started with the belly cut; it felt soft and melting, and it tasted fresh to me.

I put sashimi on wrap vegetables and sometimes added garlic or white kimchi. Switching between ssamjang, chojang, and wasabi made each combination feel different.

The ssamjang had a distinctive color, which made me think it might be made in-house. I could not confirm whether it was homemade, so I would like to ask next time.

I was pleased with the thick sashimi, the portion that felt generous, and the carefully packed selection. The owner was kind, too. I enjoyed the takeout sashimi at my accommodation this time, but next time I would like to try the full table setting in the restaurant.
