When traveling around Sokcho and Goseong, you start looking for a meat restaurant where the whole family can settle in comfortably. Yongchon Gogi-jip (용촌고기집), which I visited this time, suited those conditions quite well.

There was a wide range of meat, from pork belly to pork ribs, and even mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup) for a meal, so it was easy for both adults and children to eat together. Above all, the large parking lot was incredibly convenient for travelers getting around by car.

Whether you are traveling from Sokcho toward Goseong or heading down toward Sokcho after a Goseong trip, it is in a good spot for a stop along the way. It felt like a solid option for anyone looking for a good restaurant or meat restaurant in Goseong, too.

An easy-to-find exterior and spacious parking while traveling

The building has “Yongchon Gogi-jip, charcoal-grilled ribs specialist” written prominently on the outside, so it was not difficult to find. You can tell at a glance that it is a meat restaurant, so it stands out even when you are passing by during a trip.

Personally, what I really liked was the parking lot. There was a considerable amount of space in front of the restaurant, so there was almost no parking stress. Popular restaurants around Sokcho and Goseong can have awkward parking, but here there was enough room even if several family cars arrived together or you came in a large vehicle such as an SUV.

Spacious parking area in front of the restaurant

There were quite a few cars at mealtime, but the space itself was broad enough that it never felt cramped. When traveling with children, the food matters, of course, but easy parking is quietly a big deal too. In that respect, Yongchon Gogi-jip made a good first impression.

Yongchon Gogi-jip is great for families

The building was larger than I expected, and there were private rooms inside, making it good for family gatherings or visits with a larger group. When eating out with children, you tend to be mindful of neighboring tables, so being able to eat a little more comfortably in a private room is a plus.

That is why I thought it was a Goseong meat restaurant well suited to family meals with parents or gatherings of several families with children.

Restaurant exterior with a country-house feel

The exterior had a slight pension-house or country-home feel, so the atmosphere was a little different from a typical city meat restaurant. It was a nice place to stop when I wanted grilled meat in a more relaxed setting rather than a hectic meal in central Sokcho.

Side dishes that pair well with grilled meat

Meat side dishes including kimchi and shredded scallions

Once seated, the basic side dishes arrive first: kimchi, shredded scallions, cabbage, and assorted pickles that go well with meat. The shredded scallions were especially nice with grilled meat, while the kimchi and pickles helped cut through the richness between bites. Rather than overwhelming the table with too many dishes, the spread felt practical and focused on good accompaniments for the meat.

Starting with thick-cut pork belly

Thick-cut pork belly

We started by grilling pork belly. The meat came sliced quite thick, and the balance of lean meat and fat looked appetizing even before it hit the grill. I tend to prefer this style with some thickness over thin-sliced pork belly, so I was looking forward to it.

Pork belly placed on the grill

We loaded the grill generously with pork belly and got started. When I go to a meat restaurant with children, plain pork belly is usually the safest choice over spicy or heavily seasoned options, and the children did eat it well.

Pork belly browning on the grill

As the surface browned and the fat rendered, the outside became savory while the inside stayed moist, making for a nice texture. The pork belly alone was satisfying enough, but there was another dish that stood out most that day.

The best dish: pork ribs

Marinated pork ribs

That dish was the pork ribs. A generous serving of well-marinated meat arrived, and it gave me a different kind of anticipation from the pork belly just from the look of it. If I had to recommend just one thing at Yongchon Gogi-jip, pork ribs would be my first pick.

Pork ribs grilling on the grill

As soon as they went on the grill, the aroma of the marinade rose up and definitely got my appetite going. The sweetness was not overpowering; it was a style where the savory seasoning and the meat worked well together, making it great with rice too.

Glossy marinated pork ribs

The glossy coating of marinade on the lifted meat looked seriously appetizing, too. Pork ribs can burn quickly or turn tough if grilled badly, but cooked just right, these were tender and gently sweet, and the children enjoyed them too. Honestly, the most important thing when taking children to a meat restaurant is how well they eat, and that day they ate both the pork belly and quite a lot of pork ribs, so I was very satisfied with it as a family meal.

Grilled pork ribs with meat on the bone

The ribs were especially fun because even the meat around the bone grilled up deliciously. The marinade had soaked in just enough, so they were tasty on their own and even better with a bite of rice.

As we kept grilling and eating, the grill was empty in no time. The pork belly was good too, but the pork ribs were clearly what I kept reaching for. Their sweet-and-savory marinade is a flavor people of all ages can easily enjoy, making them a good order for families.

Finishing with hwe-naengmyeon after the meat

Hwe-naengmyeon eaten after the meat

It felt like a shame to end with just meat, so we also ordered hwe-naengmyeon (cold noodles with raw fish), and it was more satisfying than expected. Topped with raw fish and vegetables in a sweet-and-tangy broth, it was perfect for clearing the palate after a filling amount of meat.

When you come to Sokcho or Goseong, you naturally want seafood at least once, so being able to have hwe-naengmyeon at a meat restaurant is a quiet advantage for travelers. The broth was cool, slightly spicy, and tangy; mixed with the cucumber, radish, and egg on top, it tasted clean and refreshing. Maybe because we had just eaten marinated meat, its cool flavor came through even more.

Taking a bite of hwe-naengmyeon in the middle of the meat meal made my mouth feel completely refreshed, so the combination worked nicely. If you want grilled pork ribs without missing the Sokcho-and-Goseong travel mood, I would recommend ordering hwe-naengmyeon alongside them.

A meat restaurant worth stopping at between Sokcho and Goseong

The sign was easy to spot from the road, so it was not difficult to find while on the move, and it was a convenient stop on an itinerary between Sokcho and Goseong. It would work for visitors traveling only in Sokcho as well, and if you are planning Goseong accommodations or attractions too, adding it as a meal stop should not make the route feel burdensome.

Yongchon Gogi-jip along the Sokcho-to-Goseong travel route

To sum it up, Yongchon Gogi-jip was a comfortable place to visit with family thanks to its spacious parking lot and private rooms. The pork belly was reliably tasty, and the mulhoe was refreshing, but the pork ribs were my personal favorite. The seasoning was not excessive, the meat was tender, and the children ate them well.

It suits a family meal with children, a meal with parents, or a gathering of several people, and its convenience for drivers is another major advantage. If you want a hearty grilled-meat meal while traveling from Sokcho to Goseong or during a Goseong trip, it is worth a stop. If you are looking for a good Goseong restaurant or meat restaurant, add Yongchon Gogi-jip to your list for easy parking and family-friendly dining.
