Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant, no wait with a reservation: Furato
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a Japanese gyukatsu (fried beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of Seoul Square, connected underground to Exit 9 of Seoul Station. Seven groups were waiting at weekday lunch, but a reservation at Furato Shokudo meant walking straight in, and the order came to gyukatsu at 19,500 won, Japanese-style omurice at 14,500 won, and chicken karaage with fried shrimp at 6,000 won. The gyukatsu grilled on a tabletop brazier with butter and the sauce on the soft-set omurice were the highlights.

Today's post is about Furato Shokudo, a Seoul Station Seoul Square spot that's been explosively popular since opening!! I went and tried their sirloin gyukatsu (beef cutlet) and soft-boiled omurice, which recreate the neat flavors and cozy vibe of a Tokyo restaurant — it was so good I'd want to come back every payday. Here's the review!
How to find Furato Shokudo Seoul Square, and where to park
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a 1-minute walk from Exit 9 of Seoul Station, in the basement 1 restaurant row of Seoul Square. It connects directly from the Seoul Station underground passage, so you can walk straight in from the subway station.

This Seoul Square favorite is located in the basement 1 restaurant row, directly connected from the Seoul Station underground passage. Since you can enter straight from the subway station, the route is great no matter the weather.

You can also use the Seoul Square underground parking lot, and parking is free with a meal, apparently.
How long is the weekday lunch wait at Furato Shokudo?
We went during weekday lunch hours and there were 7 teams waiting. Luckily we had reserved ahead, so we got in right away.

You could also check the menu right in front of the restaurant.
Inside Furato Shokudo Seoul Square and how ordering works
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store hasn't been open long, so everything from the exterior to the interior was super clean and tidy. Ordering is done on your phone via QR code or NFC tag.

Gyukatsu places tend to get greasy on the tables and floors, but here it was kept so clean — I really appreciated that, haha.

Writing a Naver receipt review gets you a free mini karaage or drink, and you can order using your phone via QR code or NFC tag.

There's an origin-labeling board and Wi-Fi too, in case you need it!
Furato Shokudo menu prices and what we ordered
Furato Shokudo's signature dishes are gyukatsu and steki (grilled beef). This time we ordered gyukatsu (₩19,500), Japanese-style omurice (₩14,500), and chicken karaage with fried shrimp (₩6,000).

Being a Japanese specialty restaurant, the signature dishes are gyukatsu and steki. I'd been craving gyukatsu for a while, haha.
And they also had a variety of options I love — soft-boiled omurice, curry, rice bowls, and even cold soba.

There were side dishes too, so I spent a good while deciding what to order, haha.
- Gyukatsu ₩19,500
- Japanese-style omurice ₩14,500
- Chicken karaage & fried shrimp ₩6,000
How did the gyukatsu and omurice taste?
Furato Shokudo's omurice comes with a soft-boiled egg topped with a special sauce, and for the gyukatsu, a staff member lights the tabletop grill for you, then you add butter and cook it yourself.

The fluffy omurice came out first. I really, really love Furato Shokudo's omurice 😍
Cutting into that fluffy egg blanket with a fork — there's an inexplicable satisfaction to it... 💜

You top it with the special omurice sauce — is it ketchup-based? But it also has that odd, savory saltiness of old-school Western-style Korean food. The egg and sauce go so well together! Highly recommend.

And then out came the neatly plated gyukatsu set,

along with the chicken karaage and fried shrimp set. For ₩6,000, that's a really generous side — there was quite a lot of karaage inside too.

Adding this butter lets the gyukatsu soak up that buttery aroma, making it so much softer and tastier to eat, ㅠㅠ. I took the photo in a rush so it came out a bit blurry... haha.
That sizzling sound was pure happiness.

The savory butter aroma and tender juices spread through your mouth instantly, ㅠㅠ. It's not overly greasy either — the balance of lean meat and fat is just right, so you can enjoy it savory to the last bite without getting sick of it.
