Gapyeong butcher shop for striploin barbecue: Ari Chuksan
In short
Ari Chuksan is a butcher and wholesale meat shop at the entrance to Cheongpyeong Traditional Market in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi. Before a Gapyeong trip, I bought Hanwoo striploin, pork back ribs, gabrisal, and pork crocodile cut for barbecue; the striploin was especially juicy and nutty. Ari Chuksan is a place I’d happily revisit when I want to grill several cuts of meat.

Where did I buy barbecue meat for my Gapyeong trip?
For previous Gapyeong trips, I bought meat at a supermarket. This time I was only planning to buy meat, so I wanted good-quality meat at a reasonable price! So I visited a butcher shop at Cheongpyeong Traditional Market, about 15 minutes from Cheongpyeong Station.

Ari Chuksan at the entrance to Cheongpyeong Traditional Market
It is on the first floor at 23 Gangbyeon-ro, Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, and is open daily from 09:00 to 20:50.

The traditional market is held on dates ending in 2 and 7, on a five-day cycle. Prices around traditional markets tend to be really affordable, right? Even before going in, I was already thinking, Oh... this seems inexpensive and good quality? It instantly gave me confidence. It also felt like a place locals would visit more than travelers getting ripped off, and I think you could buy fruit very cheaply, too.

Meat selection, reservations, and weekday perks
This is a wholesale and retail butcher shop. There were so many kinds of meat: beef, pork, lamb, and more. There were lots of cuts to choose from too, which made it perfect for us because we wanted to try several cuts!

If you reserve through Naver and visit, they say you can receive lettuce, shredded scallions, salt, or sauce as an on-the-spot freebie. They gave me a few mushrooms that day! Haha.

They say the pork is Hi Pork, while the beef is premium Hanwoo that they auction and butcher themselves. Tuesday is pig-processing day, so you may get extras such as pork skin for free. Thursday is cattle-processing day, when you can buy fresh yukhoe (Korean-style raw beef) and sashimi, and may receive liver or cheonyeop (beef omasum) for free! They also have huge sales on pork belly, pork neck, and more on Fridays and Saturdays, so keep that in mind! Haha. If your travel dates happen to line up, you may be able to buy cuts even fresher or more cheaply.

Barbecue meat and extras in one stop
The meat looked different, too.... You could tell at a glance that it was good quality. I also loved that it came packed in 100–200 g portions!! Since you’ve come all this way for a trip, I hope you can make it an even happier one with good-quality meat!
Delivery is available for meat purchases of ₩70,000 or more.
If you like the quality of the meat, you can buy it again through parcel delivery! Items with SALE stickers were discounted, too. There was meat for soup and stew, samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) ingredients, and smoked duck as well, so you could make restorative dishes, too!

There were various frozen foods, too.

They also sold ssam vegetables (wrap vegetables), eggs, vegetables, and more at prices lower than a supermarket. I didn’t think I’d need to make a separate supermarket trip just for the extras! For anyone doing barbecue on a personal brazier, they also sold barbecue equipment really cheaply. I didn’t use it, but I took photos in case it might help someone who does.
Barbecue grilled from striploin to crocodile cut
I bought Hanwoo striploin, pork back ribs, pork gabrisal (pork neck cap), and pork crocodile cut!!!!

I finished buying everything at prices I was happy with. Originally, I was only going to buy pork belly, but I thought it would be more fun to grill several things. This was sponsored, but I paid two-thirds of the sponsorship amount myself to make the purchase! So this is a completely honest review 😎

Doesn’t it all look so delicious? Haha.
The satisfying meat made my Gapyeong trip feel even more enjoyable. The Hanwoo striploin in particular was so delicious—juicy and wonderfully nutty. The back ribs were fun to gnaw off the bone, while the crocodile cut and gabrisal cooked quickly on the barbecue.

The quality of the meat was satisfying enough that I would think of going back to Ari Chuksan butcher shop even on another Gapyeong trip.
