Gyeongju Korean restaurant for tripe hot pot: Dongyang Baekban
In short
Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. An early visit brought us a window-side table, generous Korean beef tripe hot pot, and egg rice with just the right level of spice. Verdict: a satisfying, filling lunch stop on Hwangridan-gil.

I noticed that Dongyang Baekban, which I’d seen in Daegu too, has a spot on Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil! We had such a hearty meal!
Hwangridan-gil parking and the exterior atmosphere

As everyone knows, parking on Hwangridan-gil is limited, so you need to use an outdoor public parking lot...! We parked at a public lot for Dongyang Baekban too, and it was only a short walk. The interior had the feel of an old country house, which made it feel cozy somehow.
Room-like interior and a two-person window table

The table area was a little unusual: each room seemed to have around two four-person tables, and there were two or three of these rooms. The original wooden floor was left intact, and you entered through sliding doors. It was a little hot outside, but the air conditioning was on inside, so it was nice and cool. Maybe because we came early, we could sit wherever we wanted.

With tables for two through four people, we settled into a two-person table that was perfect for a couple like us! I love window seats, so once again I picked a spot right by the window. Each table had a tabletop ordering device, which made ordering easy, and each one came with its own burner.

There’s a review event too: write a review with three photos or videos and you’ll get either strawberry ice rice cakes or one ticket for a nostalgic prize draw!! Why not give it a go, everyone?
What Korean dishes are on the menu?

They have Sumi spicy braised chicken, tomato cheese spicy braised chicken, five-color vegetable jjimdak (braised chicken), pork kimchi duruchigi (spicy stir-fry), Korean beef tripe hot pot, Korean beef mulhoe (cold raw beef soup), snow fungus black scorched-rice chicken hot pot, Yeonpyeong Island blue crab marinated in spicy sauce, and perilla oil yukjeon noodles. There are set menus too, so it would be good to order according to your group size.
Ordering Korean beef tripe hot pot and egg rice
- Korean beef tripe hot pot
- 2 egg rice servings

After ordering, the egg rice arrived along with the banchan (small side dishes). The side dishes came neatly arranged in round glass bowls, which looked quite tidy. Dongyang Baekban has not only egg rice but also various seasoned rice options such as caviar roe rice and spicy chili-pepper rice, so it was fun to have something new to try. We ordered egg rice, and it came in a large bowl topped with seaweed flakes, furikake seasoning, and a roasted egg.

It had been a while since I’d ordered Korean beef tripe hot pot. It was meant for two, but there was more than I expected! Even taking into account that the vegetables would cook down, the pot itself seemed huge, so both of us were surprised by the portion!

Once it was sizzling and bubbling away, we were so hungry that I quickly scooped up a big ladleful to try. The spice level was just right—not too hot at all—and it suited my taste perfectly. The daechang (beef large intestine) was full of juices, and I love thinly sliced boiled potatoes, which were exactly what they had here. There were glass noodles too, so there was plenty of variety to eat; I think we made a great menu choice.

Just look at all that kimchi and meat. Aren’t the toppings incredibly generous!!! We both eat well and have tried lots of Korean food and lunches on Hwangridan-gil, but this place had a really good value portion as well as great flavor, so we were both very satisfied.

Put some broth and ingredients on a small plate, mix them into the egg rice, and you’ll finish a whole bowl of rice in no time! We ate really well and left completely full!
