Gyeongju dessert café for golden kiwi mochi: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a takeaway dessert café in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, serving giant yogurt fruit mochi. My family packed up golden kiwi, mango, peach, and pineapple mochi for an evening treat, then tried them straight away and lightly frozen. Verdict: arrive before 3 p.m. for the best choice.

Sell-out tips to know before an evening visit

Tareudang, the Hwangridan-gil café in Gyeongju I had personally been dying to try! I’m such a fruit-mochi person, and honestly, I knew Tareudang’s fruit mochi before the super-hot limited-edition yogurt fruit mochi from Hanjeongseon. I kept saying I had to go, had to go—then my family suddenly decided on a weekend trip to Gyeongju, so it was the very first stop I saved to my itinerary and rushed straight to: Tareudang, Hwangridan-gil’s fruit-mochi hotspot.

Hours are 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.; it closes when ingredients sell out.

Photo from a visit to Tareudang

Tareudang has lots of varieties of its signature giant fruit mochi, but since I went in the evening, so many were sold out. If you want to try every single fruit mochi, I strongly, strongly recommend going early!!!!

Because the desserts are made and sold the same day for maximum freshness—tarts and fruit mochi alike—they often close early once ingredients run out. My tip: you absolutely have to go before 3 p.m.

Buy four or more mochi and get ₩500 off each—ohhh, I love that so much. I was sad the melon mochi I really wanted was sold out, but it was okay. There were still mango yogurt, golden kiwi, peach yogurt, and pineapple mochi left!!!

Packed fruit mochi

We tried the golden kiwi mochi right away

I packed them up one by one right away^^^ Hehehe, ahhhhhhh I’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!!! I was practically revving up at the thought of eating the Tareudang yogurt mochi I’d wanted so badly, haha. I wanted to chill it a little and eat it slightly frozen, but...

My little munchkins said they wanted to try it immediately, so I’ll open the golden kiwi mochi right now...

Giant golden kiwi mochi

True to its giant-mochi name, it was HUGE—no lie, with only a tiny bit of exaggeration, was it really as big as my son’s face!!!! +_+

Is it for real that my little one was burying their face in it, saying it was delicious!!!! They ate it so happily that Mom said, “Let me have a bite too,” and then...

Cross-section of mochi with golden kiwi fruit

A whole piece of golden kiwi fruit!!!!! It was packed in so generously, wrapped all around with sweet yogurt, and seriously SO good ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ The chewy glutinous-rice mochi went ridiculously well with it!!!!!!!!!!!

It was nicely sweet, while the fruit itself was wildly, naturally sweet. As someone crazy about fruit, it’s no secret I was clapping while eating it on Hwangridan-gil.... hahahahaha

Whole mango and pretty packaging

Sorry.... the photo is kind of a mess, right..... They kept asking me to take out another because it was so good..... This is what happened while we were eating on the street, but mango lovers, despite the photo.... please, please try the mango mochi..!!!!

It has a whole mango inside.. it’s crazy... Mango fanatics and mochi fanatics alike will have zero regrets. A whole fresh mango, plus heaps of soft, sweet filling. You can tell with one bite that they use fresh ingredients generously!!

The Tareudang fruit mochi I struggled so hard to bring home...!!!!! How is the packaging this pretty too? If you come to Gyeongju or Hwangridan-gil and wonder what gift to buy, Tareudang fruit mochi would be such a good choice. Next time, I’m buying loads ^^^^^^

For my personal taste, I recommend eating it after lightly freezing it...

Peach and pineapple all the way to the end

The peach mochi I’d been looking forward to! I wanted to eat it while looking at the cross-section too, but the kids wolfed it down on the street... Still, Tareudang’s mochi—every single one was delicious. They seem to use really good fruit too ㅜㅜ

Mochi with a whole peach inside

The peach was somewhere between soft and firm, with just the right texture and real sweetness. Isn’t this a must-try before summer is completely gone??!!! A whole peach inside one mochi.. so precious, seriously... Why isn’t this in Ulsan...????

Next up, let’s go for pineapple.

Pineapple fruit mochi

What more is there to say? The filling, sweet bean paste, glutinous-rice mochi, and fruit all work so incredibly well together... It almost hurts to keep saying it’s delicious, but it is.. Yep, it’s just delicious.... I would have regretted it if I hadn’t come to Tareudang, if I hadn’t tried it...
