Incheon ramen restaurant with pork belly mazemen: Menya Seoul

In short

Menya Seoul Lotte Department Store Incheon Branch is a ramen restaurant in Michuhol, Incheon. I tried the ₩16,900 pork belly mazemen set with karaage, adjusting the rich sauce with chili oil and vinegar. Verdict: the smoky pork belly and deeply savory sauce made this a satisfying meal.

Ordering the pork belly mazemen set

The menu had plenty of choices, from their signature dongpa-yuk chashu ramen to cold ramen and rice bowls! I tried the new pork belly mazemen this time. I ordered it as a set because it seemed like a more generous way to enjoy it (❁´◡`❁) The pork belly mazemen set—mazemen, a side, and a drink—was ₩16,900, and I chose karaage for the side!

Just a note: if you order the jambon or dongpa-yuk ramen as a set, you get double the meat!

There was chili oil and vinegar on the table to make the ramen even tastier, and they were also running a receipt review event that gives you an ajitama egg! The ajitama is aged for 48 hours too, so it sounded delicious!

Pork belly mazemen with rich sauce and smoky flavor

The food came out quickly, and they give you a pager so you can come collect it! The mazemen looked so good~ Pork belly mazemen is ramen meant to be mixed together, topped with a whole piece of pork belly, mazemen sauce, shredded seaweed, garlic chives, katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), and an egg yolk!

Pop! I broke the fresh yolk and mixed everything together enthusiastically (●'◡'●)

The noodles were a little thick, so I worried the sauce might not cling to them, but the sauce was so rich that it was needless worry! The noodles suited the sauce perfectly, and the aromas of katsuobushi and garlic chives came together into a delicious mixed ramen ^o^/ There was lots of minced meat in the sauce too, so I think it would be great to mix rice into it after finishing the noodles. I couldn't mix in rice though ㅜㅜ What a shame ㅜㅜ..

Pork belly mazemen to mix together

The pork belly that came with it was like chashu full of smoky flavor, and eating it with the mazemen made everything taste even better. Even though it was a whole piece of pork belly, it was tender with no tough bits, and the part with the bone separated easily! The pork belly was so good that I wanted to add more (●'◡'●)

How I added chili oil and vinegar

I enjoyed the original flavor first, then added a little more chili oil and vinegar halfway through! In particular, adding a little vinegar boosted the umami, so I recommend the vinegar ♪(´▽`) If you want some heat, I think you can add plenty of chili oil!

The side dishes were danmuji (yellow pickled radish) and stir-fried kimchi, and having them alongside the mazemen meant I could keep eating without getting tired of it! The stir-fried kimchi was especially delicious haha

Karaage side with sweet sauce

The karaage I chose as my side came with a sweet sauce, so it had that sweet-and-salty flavor! The karaage itself was so tasty that it would make a perfectly good drinking snack ㅜ It made me think of beer (❁´◡`❁) They also have gyoza and rice bowls as side options, so you can choose whatever suits your taste! I was just drawn to karaage that day, so that's what I picked 😊

After you finish, please return your empty bowls to the return station! I wanted to mix rice into the mazemen after I finished it, but sadly I had another appointment and couldn't—I'm still regretting it now ㅜ_ㅜ And the signature dongpa-yuk chashu ramen looked so delicious too, so I plan to try the chashu ramen next time! Menya Seoul has all kinds of ramen, from soup ramen to mixed ramen, so I think you can enjoy whichever one suits your taste!
