Dongjak, Seoul charcoal-grilled intestines: Baekho Yangdaechang

In short

Baekho Yangdaechang is a charcoal-grilled beef intestine restaurant near Isu Station in Dongjak, Seoul. I had two portions of assorted intestines and yang bokkeumbap (stir-fried rice with tripe); the staff grilled everything, and the juicy daechang with its gentle charcoal aroma stood out. Verdict: a place I’d happily return to for an Isu Station gopchang date.

Food from a visit to Baekho Yangdaechang near Isu Station

I often meet a friend who lives in Siheung around Isu Station, since it’s halfway for us! Isu Station is one of those places where there are quietly so many good restaurant options that choosing a spot becomes hard. That day, we decided to have gopchang (Korean grilled beef intestines) for the first time in a while, and the place we headed to was Baekho Yangdaechang (백호양대창).

Baekho Yangdaechang is only a five-minute walk from Exit 11 or 12 of Isu Station, so it’s incredibly easy to get to. As you walk through the food alley, you’ll spot a big sign. That’s how you’ll find Baekho Yangdaechang, with its several signs out front.

There were several banners too, but the one that caught my eye most said “48-hour low-temperature aging”! This is a place where you can have high-quality daechang (beef large intestine)!

Reserve before visiting at peak times

Reservations are available, which made it great for planning a get-together in advance. We visited on a weekend evening, and a wait started forming at around 6:30 PM. If you’re looking for a good restaurant near Isu Station, I recommend reserving for peak hours!

Indoor seating and the menu

The interior had a clean feel, with the silver pojangmacha-style tables you’d expect at a gopchang place welcoming us. There was also seating farther inside for groups. It looked like up to 12 people could sit together with a reservation.

Grilled gopchang and hot pot menu

The menu was varied, with sets, grilled dishes, hot pots, and meals. Assorted grill, yang-daechang grill, daechang grill, premium yang grill, and gopchang hot pot all had a big ★ beside them!! I wanted to eat everything, but there were only two of us… so just two portions… haha.

Assorted gopchang packed with charcoal aroma and juices

What we ordered that day was the assorted gopchang! It was grilled over charcoal, so the gopchang had a lovely, subtle charcoal aroma all through it. If you love that smoky grilled flavor, I think you’ll be very satisfied with this Isu Station gopchang spot. And when I ate the daechang, the juices burst out—pop pop💥 Maybe because it had been low-temperature aged for 48 hours, the juiciness and rich savory flavor really hit as soon as I took a bite.

The distinctive rich flavor of gopchang went so well with the charcoal aroma—it was sooo delicious :) Another great thing about Baekho Yangdaechang is that the staff grill the intestines for you! Gopchang is delicious, but grilling it can be a little bothersome, so it was nice that they did it and we could simply eat comfortably.

You have to get the yang bokkeumbap too ⭐⭐⭐

If you’ve had gopchang, fried rice afterward is practically the rule, right? We ordered the yang bokkeumbap too, and it was really delicious. But beyond the taste, it looked so cute. It came with egg eyes and a perilla-leaf mouth, so naturally I took photos the moment it arrived 🤣 After the gopchang, finishing with the yang bokkeumbap left us nicely full and completely satisfied.

Note the two-hour limit if there’s a wait ‼️

One thing to keep in mind: when there’s a wait, dining time is limited to two hours! A wait started at around 6:30 PM when we visited too, so we left right at the two-hour mark! Of course, two hours was just right for properly enjoying two portions of assorted gopchang, yang bokkeumbap, and two bottles of soju 🤗 If you want to order lots of dishes while having gopchang and chat for a long, long time, it’s worth keeping this in mind before you visit.

My overall take on the assorted gopchang at Baekho Yangdaechang

I was so satisfied with all the food, and it was easy to enjoy since they grilled it for us. The assorted gopchang full of charcoal aroma and the delicious yang bokkeumbap were the best! If I have plans around Isu Station next time, I think I’ll come back. I recommend it to anyone craving gopchang or daechang near Isu Station, especially those looking for a great Isu Station gopchang restaurant 😊

Let’s not give up delicious food even while managing our finances, everyone!!!! 💰🐷🐷💰
