Seongsu Japanese restaurant for hot-plate okonomiyaki: Oshi Black

In short

Oshi Black Seongsu is a Japanese restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul, serving okonomiyaki and yakisoba. I watched the cooking from the bar, then enjoyed Classic Okonomiyaki and spicy Karai Yakisoba hot to the last bite. Verdict: a lovely pick for a blind date or dinner date.

Okonomiyaki in Seongsu and Seoul Forest: Oshi Black Seongsu

I visited Oshi Black Seongsu, a great spot for okonomiyaki in Seongsu. You can have delicious okonomiyaki and yakisoba (Japanese stir-fried noodles), and the interior has such a lovely vibe that I’d recommend it for a blind date or a date, too.

What are the exterior and interior like?

Oshi Black Seongsu is a Seongsu restaurant known for its okonomiyaki! Come via Ttukseom Station or Seoul Forest Station. It’s on basement level 1, but it catches your eye right away, so it’s easy to head in. They’re also on Catch Table, just so you know. I went on a weekday evening and got in without waiting!

There are both bar seats and regular tables! I prefer bar seating, so that’s where I sat. Isn’t the atmosphere so nice...

They cook right here in front of you, so it was nice not to get bored while waiting for the food!!

There are actually quite a few regular tables too, so I think visiting with up to four people would be easy! The regular tables also have a griddle, and they bring your finished food right over onto it. You can eat it warm until the very end.

They had cute little personal knives, which made it easy to cut off small bites. And the pickles that came with it were seriously delicious. Just when things start to feel a little rich, take a bite of chili and it clears everything right up!

Classic Okonomiyaki and Karai Yakisoba

Ordered Classic Okonomiyaki

Since it’s known for okonomiyaki...! I ordered the Classic Okonomiyaki, a Japanese savory pancake. It had squid, shrimp, meat, and all sorts of ingredients, so the texture was wonderfully full and varied! Haha.

I want to eat it again...

I cut it up and shared it with my friend.

Because we ate it on the griddle, it stayed warm right to the last bite.

The vibe is good too... I really recommend it for a blind date!!

Okonomiyaki that pairs well with beer

I think it would be even better with beer... but I’m not drinking at the moment, so I held back.

Ordered spicy Karai Yakisoba

Next up was the Karai Yakisoba! We thought we should order one spicy dish, so we did! It was delicious, but quite spicy, so I think it could be too hot for anyone who really can’t handle spice! It was pretty spicy.....

The yakisoba was really delicious too, but perhaps because this is such a good Seongsu okonomiyaki spot, I liked the okonomiyaki more!! Both were tasty, though. The dishes came out almost one after another, which was gooood for taking photos too.

If you go to Naver Place, they’ll put a candle in your dish for a birthday or anniversary event. The candles in the other tables’ okonomiyaki were kind of cute!! If you’re going for an anniversary, be sure to apply.

Lastly~~~ I thought, wow, there’s so much scallion in this that my breath might smell a bit? But thoughtfully, they give you peppermint candies too. They came in a cute little container, so at first I wondered what it was. Hahaha. It was a meal that was perfect right through the ending!!!

If you’re on a blind date or a date around Seoul Forest or Seongsu, give it a try! You might get complimented, haha.
