Sinnonhyeon tteokbokki takeout with jocheong-tteok: Deokjane Bangatgan
In short
Deokjane Bangatgan is a garaetteok (long rice cake) tteokbokki restaurant between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Seocho, Seoul. This visit, the writer took away tteokbokki, cheese gimbap, tuna gimbap and jocheong-tteok (rice cake with grain syrup) and laid out a full snack spread at home, where the chewy long rice cakes and the sauce that clings to them were the reason Deokjane Bangatgan stays a favorite. The combo to order: tteokbokki, tuna gimbap and jocheong-tteok.

Where is the best tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon Station?
Where's the best tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon? Tteokbokki is really a matter of taste, so being famous doesn't automatically mean it's good. There's the wheat-cake camp vs. the rice-cake camp, the sweet camp vs. the spicy camp — it gets pretty intense haha.
But if you ask me where to eat tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon, there's one place I say without hesitation. Deokjane Bangatgan (덕자네방앗간) ❤️ This isn't somewhere I go once or twice out of curiosity — it's genuinely my favorite tteokbokki spot.
Especially because of the insane chewiness of the long garaetteok and the thick, clingy sauce combo, I think about this place regularly...🌶️ This time, to eat comfortably at home, I packed everything neatly to go — tteokbokki, jocheong-tteok, cheese gimbap, and tuna gimbap.

Deokjane Bangatgan: the storefront and the room inside
Deokjane Bangatgan has a warm, homey name and that friendly snack-restaurant atmosphere that makes it easy to drop by without pressure. Rather than a flashy, hip new spot, it feels more like a solid, no-nonsense snack restaurant that clearly knows what it's doing with tteokbokki.
The inside is also a casual space that's easy to enjoy tteokbokki and gimbap in, making it great for a quick meal near Sinnonhyeon. It's also great for packing multiple menu items and throwing a snack party at home like I did haha.

🌶️ Deokjane Bangatgan tteokbokki: how chewy is the garaetteok?
The biggest reason I love this place. The rice cake is garaetteok. And not the short-cut kind — it's fully long garaetteok, so it looks striking from the start haha.
Take one bite and it goes beyond chewy — it's genuinely elastic. There's that stretchy, springy texture unique to garaetteok that makes it more delicious the more you chew!

And here's the really important part — the sauce is insane... No matter how good the garaetteok is, tteokbokki ultimately needs to have a good sauce. At Deokjane Bangatgan, the sauce clings perfectly to the rice cake and tastes better the more you eat, which really nailed my taste.
Pick up a piece of rice cake, load it up with sauce, and even though it's a familiar flavor, my hand just keeps reaching for more haha. I'm not calling this my favorite for no reason.

🍙 My pick at Deokjane Bangatgan: tuna gimbap
Tteokbokki without gimbap feels incomplete, so I packed cheese gimbap and tuna gimbap too. Both are great dipped in the tteokbokki sauce, but my personal favorite is the tuna gimbap.

The savory, mild flavor of the tuna paired with the spicy tteokbokki sauce turned out to be a really great combo. I'd eat a bite of tteokbokki, then a piece of tuna gimbap, and eventually ended up dunking the tuna gimbap in the sauce too haha.
The cheese gimbap was also good — the cheese's savory flavor helped balance out the spiciness. But if I had to pick just one? No hesitation, I'm voting for tuna gimbap 🙋♀️

🍯 Jocheong-tteok, the sweet finish packed to go
And when you go to Deokjane Bangatgan, it's hard to skip the jocheong-tteok (honey syrup rice cake). Moving from spicy tteokbokki to sweet jocheong-tteok suddenly completes the dessert course.
Eating more rice cake after already having garaetteok in the tteokbokki? Yes. When rice cake is delicious, the meal and the dessert are separate matters^^ haha. With tteokbokki, gimbap, and jocheong-tteok all covered, I had a proper full snack spread even at home!
❤️ Why Deokjane Bangatgan is my favorite tteokbokki spot in Seocho
I love tteokbokki and have tried quite a lot of places, but Deokjane Bangatgan is the one I keep thinking about. The long, chewy garaetteok plus the insane sauce — these two things are so distinct that it really sets itself apart from other tteokbokki.
If you're looking for a great tteokbokki spot near Sinnonhyeon, I'll still recommend this one. If you especially love soft, chewy garaetteok, I think you'll be even more satisfied.
My recommended combo is tteokbokki + tuna gimbap + jocheong-tteok ❤️
It's dangerous every time I go near Sinnonhyeon. Even when I'm not hungry, once I think of Deokjane, it's game over...🌶️
