Hapjeong solo shabu-shabu with a phone stand and extra veggies

In short

Nahonsha is a Japanese-style shabu-shabu restaurant near Hapjeong Station Exit 7 in Mapo, Seoul, serving solo pots and sukiyaki. The writer ordered a clear-broth shabu with extra meat, got three sauces served separately, and watched videos on the phone stand built into every seat. With generous portions that were worth ordering extra vegetables for, Nahonsha turned out to be a comfortable spot to enjoy shabu-shabu alone.

If someone asked me my favorite food, or the one food I'd have to pick for the rest of my life, I wouldn't even think twice — I'd shout shabu-shabu...🤤...

My friends call me a shabu-shabu fiend because I love it so much! I heard there's a place in Hapjeong where you can enjoy shabu-shabu alone 👀!!! And apparently they have solo pots for solo dining too, so let me show you in detail ❤️

An entrance with a garden tucked between packed buildings

When I arrived at Nahonsha, I found it had its own beautiful garden squeezed between densely packed buildings...🍃 I thought it was a beautiful restaurant with Japanese vibes :)

Nahonsha's menu board was standing out front! The prices are affordable, and true to a Hapjeong favorite, you can enjoy both shabu-shabu and sukiyaki here! Looking at the standing sign, they also have a separate lunch menu that's quite cheap, so it seems like a good spot to visit for lunch too 💚

Seats great for solo dining, even a storage drawer

The interior was a bit dim and had a calm feel! I prefer quiet over noisy so I liked it :) I was about to sit by the window, but

I ended up at the table next to it! Right behind the chair was a drawer for storing bags, so I comfortably tucked my things away ☺️

On the table, barley tea, wet wipes, and tissues were already set out! Having barley tea instead of plain water made it feel like extra care had gone into it...🫢

Ordering clear-broth shabu with extra meat

I already showed you the front menu, so I photographed mostly the extra items that aren't listed on Naver Maps! I ordered

  • Clear broth shabu
  • Extra meat
  • Zero-sugar cola

like this 💚

A phone stand at every seat

Another unusual thing — there was a phone stand right at the seat...? The owner's sense of style... amazing.....👍 Anyone eating alone is definitely going to put on YouTube or Netflix, so having this stand there is so convenient 🫢!!!!

The cola came out with a glass of ice ❤️

Generous vegetables and three sauces for a single serving

After pouring the broth, they brought the vegetables right away! I wasn't expecting much given the low price, but even for a single serving, the amount of vegetables was pretty generous ☺️

They brought sauces along with it too — soy ponzu, peanut sauce, and sweet chili, all three of my favorites!!!! What was great about Nahonsha wasn't just the solo pot — it was that everything was served individually so I could eat as much as I wanted, comfortably 💖

Individual sauces: soy ponzu, peanut sauce, sweet chili
Plate of added extra shabu-shabu meat

Shouting to myself, look at me, adding extra meat....👍 And the noodles came together with it! Isn't this really good value 🫢...

How to boil it: start at level 5, drop to level 3

The staff told me to boil it first at heat level 5, add the vegetables and eat, then lower it to level 3, so I start boiling the water haha. While waiting for the water to boil, I portion out my sauce buddies 🤭 this looks so good.......

Vegetables in, meat in too 🧑‍🩰🧑‍🩰🧑‍🩰 this is Suyeon, dancing because she's happy.

I set it up on the stand and filmed it like a vlog — my face isn't even in the shot, but you can still feel the excitement 🙉

Meat and vegetables cooking in the solo pot

Once the shabu-shabu cooked through, I dipped it in the sauces,

and since I recently started watching Yubunyeo Killer on Coupang Play, I set it up on the stand the owner had prepared and watched while eating comfortably 👍!!!

Adding more vegetables and finishing with noodles

But... I went there not even that hungry... and it was seriously delicious... so I added more vegetables....🤤 They gave me a generous extra helping haha

After finishing everything! Down to the last noodle!!!!!! ❤️ Honestly it was so good I wanted to finish with porridge too, but the portions were so big I got too full and had to give up.... I really should have finished with the porridge 🤭 haha

A reason to go back for solo shabu-shabu in Hapjeong

As I was about to leave after finishing everything, I spotted some cute drawings and took photos 😆 haha I came to Nahonsha to eat alone, and it turned out to be such a great place for solo dining, with neat, delicious food... I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Hapjeong!!! 💖

Shabu-shabu always felt like a dish that's hard to eat alone, but having a solo pot option was really nice haha This time I had shabu-shabu, but next time I should try the sukiyaki too! They have various broths, and apparently mala broth is an option too haha I'd recommend it to anyone who loves mala.

ps I thought the name Nahonsha was Japanese, but I found out somewhere that it's actually short for 'na honja shabu-shabu' (eating shabu-shabu alone)...? The owner... is stylish in every way....👍 I haven't been able to forget Nahonsha ever since.....
