Some days you want meat but not the usual pork or beef — something a little different. This was one of those days. Craving duck for the first time in a while, I looked around Gyeyang in Incheon and ended up at Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch.
Duck can be grilled, boiled as baeksuk (whole boiled duck soup), or baked in clay — lots of ways to enjoy it — but this time I went with the whole charcoal-grilled fresh duck. One reason I love duck is that distinctive aroma it gets from being cooked over charcoal, and sure enough, the charcoal smoke deepened the duck's flavor even more. Best of all, even after charcoal grilling, the meat stayed juicy and tender.

Visiting on a drizzly day only added to the atmosphere — Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch
Parking and the vibe inside
One thing I liked as soon as I arrived was how big the parking lot was. Not having to stress about parking before a meal made for a relaxed first impression.
Walking in, the space was bigger than I expected. It had that open, spacious feel of a large restaurant, so it didn't feel cramped even with a group. Everything looked well kept and clean too.
Toward the back there were partitioned areas, which seemed great for group gatherings, plus window-side seats with big glass windows.
The staff were kind and the owner greeted us warmly, which made the meal even more pleasant. Good food is the main event, but that kind of service quietly boosts how satisfying the whole experience feels.

There are baby chairs ready to go, and a clean restroom inside as well.
What's at the self-serve bar

The self-serve bar has all kinds of banchan (side dishes) plus warm seaweed soup! This place is legit good for seaweed soup, haha!
Menu lineup and what we ordered
As a duck specialty restaurant, they serve fresh charcoal-grilled duck, smoked charcoal duck, spicy stir-fried duck, clay-baked duck, and duck baeksuk with neungi mushroom, plus seasoned pork ribs. Side menu items include duck soup, Busan milmyeon, and duck-egg chive rice.

That day I especially wanted charcoal-grilled fresh duck — the clean, savory taste of duck plus charcoal smoke sounded delicious. One more thing I liked: you can order it by the half, which is handy depending on group size or appetite.

The gorgeous charcoal fire made its entrance, and they popped the sweet potato right in!
Whole charcoal-grilled fresh duck!

Since this dish is all about grilling fresh duck over charcoal, seeing the fire itself built up my expectations. Watching the meat cook away on the coals is half the fun of waiting. As the meat cooked and its aroma mixed with the charcoal smoke, my appetite shot right up. Duck really does taste best cooked over charcoal.

Tip for grilling: you have to keep flipping it or it'll burn, haha!
The visuals looked delicious, but honestly what stuck with me most was the smell as it cooked. If you love charcoal grilling, you'll already be excited at this point, haha.
I grabbed a well-cooked piece of duck and tried it right away. The first thing I noticed was the charcoal aroma. Grilling over charcoal gave the duck a subtle smoky flavor, along with duck's signature savory taste.
Charcoal grilling can sometimes dry meat out, but this duck stayed juicy. The more I chewed, the softer and more savory it got, so I kept reaching for more.

Eating only meat can get a little repetitive, but pairing it with the banchan changed things up nicely.

The banchan overall were tasty and paired well with the duck. Personally, wrapping a piece of duck with a generous scoop of banchan was the most comfortable and delicious way to eat.
Busan milmyeon (cold) ₩7,000
Busan milmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles)
Getting to enjoy milmyeon — usually something you'd have to go to Busan for — here in Incheon! Cool water noodles with bits of shaved ice floating in it! I slurped the noodles down nonstop, haha. The broth was tangy-sweet.
The sweetest roasted sweet potato in the world

There was one more thing that really stuck with me that day: the sweet potato that comes with the meal. You get one per person. They wrap it in foil and tuck it into the charcoal, then pull it out right around when you're finishing the meal.

It turned out to be way more delicious than expected, haha. My partner loved it so much he ate two, and joked he wanted to order a third, lol. Slow-roasted over charcoal, it was warm, sweet and perfectly fluffy. Eating it as a dessert after the duck made for a great finish. Honestly, this sweet potato alone adds a whole extra layer of fun to a charcoal-fire meal.
A waiting area kids will love

After finishing up, I noticed the waiting area had a claw machine and a Mentos-dispenser game — great so kids won't get bored while waiting!
What struck me during this meal was that it wasn't just the food — the size of the place, the parking, and the clean atmosphere all added up to a satisfying experience. If I'm ever in Gyeyang, Incheon craving grilled or charcoal-roasted duck and want to eat comfortably in a big, clean restaurant, I'd come back to Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch. Especially that combo of duck cooked over charcoal and the roasted sweet potato at the end — I definitely want to enjoy that again.
