Mangwon café for laptop work with Ariça Bouquet iced latte: PICT

In short

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is a specialty coffee café in Mapo, Seoul, started by the original Magongnaru roastery. A home-brewing couple ordered iced americano and iced latte made with the fruity Ariça Bouquet blend, plus Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake, and found the deep bar-table seating with outlets at every seat ideal for laptop work. Verdict: a Mangwon-dong coffee shop worth the trip for serious coffee drinkers who also want room to work.

On a weekend afternoon, my wife and I had just finished a hearty, satisfying meal, and naturally a good cup of coffee started calling to us. The weather had cooled down a bit, but the midday heat still lingered, so an iced americano sounded perfect.

We're both big coffee people — we brew at home every day — so honestly, most cafés don't do much for us. I briefly considered just grabbing a coffee as a cold-water substitute at a cheap chain, but then I remembered that PICT Roastery, which is pretty famous for its coffee in Magongnaru, had opened a branch in Mangwon-dong. So we went in with high hopes.

A modern white-and-steel space, and surprisingly spotless

The entrance is a little hidden — at first we walked right past it to where we could see the sign, then had to backtrack to the door we'd already passed. You go down about half a flight of stairs in the building to reach the café.

Walking in, the interior was clean and stylish, done mostly in white and light gray tones. The cool crispness of the stainless steel elements contrasted nicely with the warmth of the wood trays, giving the space a really good balance.

You can never skip the bathroom check on a café tour, right? If the café itself is clean but the bathroom is a mess, it just ruins the mood. Mangwon-dong has a lot of older buildings, so I often run into poorly maintained bathrooms there — but PICT Roastery's was genuinely spotless and well kept, which I really appreciated.

Choose your beans: Midnight Cacao or Ariça Bouquet

The menu has 6 coffees, 3 desserts, 3 teas, and 3 other drinks. I walked in thinking 'americano, no question,' but once I saw the menu, the 'black latte' and some unfamiliar teas caught my eye and got me curious.

You get to choose between the dark 'Midnight Cacao Blend' and the brighter, more acidic 'Ariça Bouquet Blend.' The Midnight Cacao Blend leans into a crowd-pleasing, heavy, classic profile of dark chocolate and cacao nibs, while the Ariça Bouquet Blend carries a more varied, fragrant profile — jasmine, peach, honey, bergamot — aimed at people who enjoy acidity. Since I love citrusy fruit notes and my wife loves floral (jasmine) notes, we figured the Bouquet Blend would satisfy us both, so we both went with it.

Iced americano, iced latte, and matcha Basque cheesecake

I ordered an iced americano, my wife ordered an iced latte, and for dessert we picked the Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake. (I later found out from other people's reviews that their 24-hour aged French toast is apparently super famous! The Basque cheesecake was so good it made me curious about the French toast too — and when my wife found this out afterward, she scolded me a little for not telling her PICT was a French toast spot. 😅)

How the Bouquet Blend iced americano tasted

The moment I took a sip of my Bouquet Blend americano, a gentle, fragrant peach note swept softly through my mouth. After that came layers of jasmine and bergamot, lingering pleasantly. Americano really is the best way to taste the bean's character fully.

And what about the acidic-bean iced latte?

I stole a sip of my wife's iced latte, and I was genuinely surprised — the bean's acidity blended naturally with the milk for a perfectly balanced cup. We're both kind of picky about coffee, so it's rare to find a café where we're both happy, but PICT managed to satisfy us both, which hadn't happened in a while.

Once it gets a little cooler out, I definitely want to try the hot latte too. Oh, and now I'm curious about the black latte as well.

Creamy matcha Basque cheesecake and roomy seats made for laptop work

The Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake was much softer in texture than it looks in photos. Basque cheesecakes usually get drier toward the edges, but this one stayed moist all the way to the end.

The matcha cream in the center especially was perfectly creamy — not runny, not overly dense. The bitterness of the matcha spread through subtly rather than overpoweringly, upgrading the whole cake's flavor to something quite luxurious. I seriously considered ordering another dessert, but my wife, who's on a diet, talked me out of it.

Coffee and dessert set on the café table

Table depth and outlets at every seat

As we lingered over the coffee and dessert, the space's real charm started to reveal itself — the 'depth' of the seating. Both the 2-seat tables near the entrance and the window-side bar table have generous depth, plenty of room to comfortably set up a laptop and work solo. Compared to other cafés where a single laptop fills the whole table, this was genuinely a relief.

Outlets installed under the bar table for each seat

On top of that, there's an outlet thoughtfully placed under the bar table at every seat. The background music, which really sets the tone of a café, was excellent too — instead of something chaotic, the song choices and volume were dialed in perfectly for working on a laptop or reading quietly, which let us fully sink into the space.

Final verdict

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch won over both my wife and me instantly, and we're both home-brewing coffee snobs. If you want to properly experience well-crafted specialty coffee, or you're looking for a great Mangwon-dong café with spacious, comfortable tables for laptop work or reading, I recommend this place 200%. Once it gets a bit chillier, we're definitely coming back to try the French toast we missed out on, paired with a hot latte!

So — which do you prefer: a bright, acidic latte or a heavy, nutty one? Let me know your coffee taste in the comments! 😊
