Traditional liquor Roa White 19 near Mangwon Station: Jeongju Ilga

These days I've been looking for places where you can enjoy good food along with your drinks, rather than just a bar to drink at. This time I visited Jeongju Ilga, a Korean-style liquor bar in Mangwon-dong!

If you like traditional Korean liquor, this is a place worth keeping an eye on. Visiting in person, the food was really good and the vibe was great too, so I was pretty~~ satisfied! Mangwon-dong has so many pretty cafés and good restaurants, but finding a quiet spot for a drink in the evening isn't as easy as you'd think. Jeongju Ilga was pretty solid in that sense 👍

An exterior that fits right into the Mangwon-dong alley

You can feel the vibe just from the outside. It's not flashy, but it keeps the feel of an old building while creating a look that's very Mangwon-dong 🫶🏻 The sign is clean and the colors are pretty, so it's the kind of exterior that makes you go 'oh, what is this, a café? a restaurant?'

I really like this kind of atmosphere, so I was already looking forward to it before even going in haha. It fits well with the alley feel unique to Mangwon-dong, and it's a clean space with a Korean touch! Right up my alley.

What's the inside like?

Walking in, the atmosphere from the outside carries right through. The interior is wood-toned with Korean-style props and paintings placed throughout, giving off an overall warm and calm feeling. It's not loud or chaotic, so it seemed like a good place to chat over a drink.

It was fun looking at the walls and each little prop, and the soft lighting really made the mood. Because of that, I thought it would work well as a Mangwon-dong date bar or a blind-date spot haha. I prefer places with their own character over overly uniform franchise vibes, and Jeongju Ilga scored well on that front.

The tables and chairs also matched the overall mood well, and the space didn't feel cramped, which I liked.

A wireless charger at every table

There was one point I really liked about Jeongju Ilga: every table has a wireless charger lol. This might seem like nothing, but it's genuinely convenient haha. If you're constantly taking photos, searching menus, and using your phone, the battery drains fast — being able to charge right at the table was really nice. I liked that they thought of small details like this.

How many kinds of traditional liquor are there?

Now let's take a look at the menu. As the name suggests, this is a Korean bar built for enjoying traditional liquor, so there were more drink options than I expected.

Not just the food but the traditional liquor selection was really varied too, so I want to try a different one each time I come back. If you're interested in traditional Korean liquor but don't know what to pick, I'd recommend asking the staff for a recommendation.

What does Roa White 19 taste like?

The drink we chose that day was 'Roa White 19.' Honestly, it was my first time trying it so I was curious how it would taste, but to cut to the chase — it's really, really good!! I'm definitely coming back just for this 🤩🤩🤩

The bottle itself has such a nice look that it photographs beautifully, and pouring it into a ceramic cup made me feel really good haha.

What I liked most was the taste. It's not completely without the characteristic aroma of traditional liquor, but it felt quite clean, and the finish wasn't bitter — it ended sweetly, which I liked. That said, it's not overly sweet!! I don't like overly sweet drinks either haha. I think even people trying traditional liquor for the first time could enjoy this comfortably.

The basic side dish that came with it kept getting picked at too. Crunchy enough that once you start, you somehow can't stop, you know that feeling lol. We kept snacking on it before the main dishes arrived and it disappeared in no time haha.

Bossam (medium), a great combination of sides

First up, the bossam (boiled pork wraps), medium size! It looked really appetizing right from the start, and looking at the photos again, the portion was quite generous.

Of everything I ate that day, this was one of my favorites. It came with meat, tofu, and various sides so you could mix and match to your taste, and the meat itself was delicious and didn't get boring paired with the sides.

The meat is tasty on its own, but wrapping it with vegetables and adding garlic or peppers gives it a whole different feel! There's a reason a dish like this makes such a good drinking snack. One bite, one sip — it's just right.

Half-and-half pancake topped with cheese

Next up was the half-and-half pancake! This dish grabbed my eye visually right away. The pancake, split into two halves, came topped with cheese and other ingredients, so it made quite an impression when it hit the table.

This one was also seriously... delicious ㅠㅠ The outside stayed crispy while the inside was soft, and with the cheese added there was a nutty richness too — it went perfectly with the traditional liquor.

Overall thoughts

With both dishes turning out this good, I could see why Jeongju Ilga is popular as a Korean liquor bar. It's not just a place to drink — the food is good, the vibe is good, and you can enjoy both together ~.~ I especially loved that the food exceeded my expectations, and Roa White 19 suited my taste well too, which made it even more satisfying. The atmosphere was comfortable enough that sitting and talking for a long time was no problem at all.

So I thought it'd be great to come back with friends, or even for a casual date drink. Mangwon-dong already has so many places to go in the evening, but if you're near Mangwon Station looking for a bar with a good atmosphere and want to try something a bit different — traditional liquor with Korean food — I think Jeongju Ilga is a pretty solid choice!! This was my first visit, and honestly I was surprised at how good the food was. It felt like I came for a drink and left having had a proper meal too haha.
