Texas barbecue with a Western atmosphere near Dongdaegu Station

There was a Texas barbecue place near Dongdaegu Station that positively radiated a Western vibe, and I had been eyeing it whenever I passed by. It had been a while, so I decided it was time to carve into some steak and paid a visit. It was Modak Texas Barbecue, a Texas-style barbecue specialist!

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch does not have its own dedicated parking lot, but if you park at the nearby MD Building parking lot, eat at least ₩50,000 worth of food, and show your parking ticket when paying, ₩4,000 is deducted from the bill.

A wood-toned interior with booth seating

The space was decorated mainly in warm wood tones, making it feel cozy. Wooden walls and furniture, American-style neon signs, vintage signage, and other decorations combined for a retro American feel.

There were a variety of table and booth seats. The diners ranged from groups of friends and couples on dates to families with children and teenagers, making it clear this was a casual restaurant that people of all ages could enjoy.

From platters to steak and pasta

The choices are broad, from platters that let you try several meats and flavors at once—brisket, pulled pork, buffalo wings, filet steak, and more—to steak options such as ghee-butter steak and tomahawk steak, plus pasta and rice.

Since I had come craving steak, I decided to order one ghee-butter steak and one pasta.

Soup and fries to settle my first meal of the day

Somehow, I had gone all day without eating, so dinner became my first meal. The warm mushroom soup served as an appetizer was on the thin side, but it had a comforting warmth. The simple salad of lettuce, tomato, and cheese was refreshing and great for waking up the appetite.

Freshly fried fries can hardly be bad, but the fries at Modak Texas Barbecue tasted especially good. Dipping the thick, crisp fries into ketchup made it impossible to resist the lure of beer, so I ordered draft beer while my companion ordered Coke to have with the fries.

The ghee-butter steak fire show and that first bite

As we ate the various appetizers and waited, a staff member wheeled a trolley over to our table. Then came the ghee-butter steak fire show! What a per-foooormance!!!

After the fire show, they generously pour ghee butter over the tenderloin steak. They say that pouring ghee butter over this lean, beefy cut brings out its clean flavor even more.

They season it with salt, coat both sides with ghee butter in a hot cast-iron pan, cook it to the right doneness, and bring the steak to the table.

Now our only job was to enjoy the steak! Steak gets tough if you leave it too long, so it is best eaten straight away. The first bite was meltingly tender, and the ghee-butter aroma made it taste even more refined.

Sweet and rich shrimp cream pasta

While I was enjoying the steak, the shrimp cream pasta we ordered arrived too. It was filled with big shrimp and had a smooth, rich cream base, though it was quite sweet. I think children would really like its rich sweetness.

Modak Texas Barbecue near Dongdaegu Station is a Texas-style barbecue and steak spot where you can enjoy a range of Western dishes including barbecue platters, steak, and pasta. It was spacious and comfortable, so it seemed ideal for meals with friends, dates, or family dinners with children.
