Dinner at Wangchang Jokbal near Sunae Station
On a weekday evening, my husband, child, and I finally went out for jokbal after a long time near Sunae Station. We had always ordered delivery, but Wangchang Jokbal was so much tastier when we ate at the restaurant.

Wangchang Jokbal is a well-known jokbal spot around Sunae Station in Bundang, also famous as a place to eat near Bundang-gu Office. We visited around 6 p.m. on a Monday evening. I thought it would be quiet since it was Monday, but there were more customers than expected. It was mostly office workers—I never imagined it would be this busy as soon as Monday rolled around.

The jokbal was displayed like this (?) and sliced as soon as you order. Since I had only ever had it delivered, I loved being able to eat warm jokbal right away.

Ordering Wangchang Original Jokbal and spicy sujebi
Menu Wangchang Original Jokbal, medium Spicy sujebi (hand-torn dough soup)

The complimentary side dishes include pickled radish wraps, seasoned dried radish, and eoriguljeot (salt-fermented baby oysters). Cabbage soup and steamed egg are included too!

Wrap vegetables and seasoned scallions come with it too. With jokbal, the more of everything there is, the better. I do not usually eat vegetables, but I should at least eat lots when I get a chance like this,,

Complimentary steamed egg that was great with a child
When I visit a restaurant with my child, I am always happy if it has steamed egg, and Wangchang Jokbal provided it as a complimentary dish. It made our meal so much easier.

Moist Wangchang Jokbal, sliced to order
This is the medium Wangchang Jokbal. The meat was so tender and moist, delicious without any unwanted smell, that I kept reaching for it. It had a soft texture, and the chewy skin was seriously tasty ㅠㅠ

I wrapped it with vegetables, and the moist, chewy flavor filled my mouth,, Eating jokbal at the restaurant as soon as it came out was completely different from always ordering delivery haha. You absolutely have to come eat jokbal here.

I even pulled off and ate the meat attached to the bone. It was not tough at all, just tender, so I picked every bit of meat off the bones.

Eoriguljeot that was fine even for someone who cannot handle oysters
Eoriguljeot also comes as a side dish, but honestly, I am not good with oysters and never eat raw oysters at all. Fried oysters were about the only kind I could manage..? But it looked like it would go so well with jokbal and looked so delicious that I gathered a little courage and tried it—and it was tastier than I expected!! The seasoning had really soaked in, so it was fine even for someone like me who cannot eat oysters. It was my first time eating oysters with jokbal, and I finally understood that clean, refreshing taste haha. The mild, tender jokbal gets the salty umami and refreshing flavor of the oyster jeotgal, so this is an absolute must-have side.

Spicy sujebi instead of makguksu
Usually when I go to a jokbal restaurant, I order platter makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), but that day I wanted something different, so I chose spicy sujebi instead. And wow, so delicious. It is very spicy, but it is the good kind of spicy. This is a pleasantly fiery sujebi where you feel like you could be in trouble if you swallow the broth wrong. Still, it is so good that you keep drinking the broth. My husband gets hiccups as soon as he eats food made spicy with capsaicin, but even though this spicy sujebi was this hot, he did not hiccup at all. It somehow seemed made with just chili flakes and Cheongyang chili peppers, but anyway, it was delicious.

The sujebi dough was soft and chewy too, so good. I thought we had made a great choice over makguksu. Take a big wrap of jokbal, then a spoonful of spicy broth—the combination is excellent. It is exactly the kind of broth that is perfect for jokbal and soju after work. With just this, the drinks go down way too smoothly. (Says someone who cannot really drink soju haha)

Recommended jokbal restaurant near Sunae Station
If you are looking for a jokbal restaurant near Sunae Station, I really recommend Wangchang Jokbal. Bundang Jungang Park is nearby too, so it is nice to take a walk after eating. I especially recommend it to anyone wondering whether a jokbal restaurant might be difficult with a child. With tender jokbal and complimentary steamed egg, we were able to eat more comfortably than expected. Wangchang Jokbal makes a great combination with eoriguljeot and spicy sujebi too.
