In short

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is a Pyeongyang-style handmade mandu (dumpling) restaurant at 129 Jimok-ro in Paju, Gyeonggi. Arriving with the kids at 6:30 p.m., the writer ordered two servings of Pyeongyang mandu hot pot for 28,000 won, Pyeongyang mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and mungbean pancake, then finished the broth with knife-cut noodles; the restaurant also has a self-serve corner, baby chairs, a microwave and a dessert zone with roasted grain drink and snacks. Today I visited Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu, well known as a Paju Outlet restaurant and Paju Unjeong restaurant that's great to stop by before or after shopping at Paju Lotte Outlet! I usually love mild, non-greasy North Korean-style handmade dumplings, so I went in with high expectations. This time I ordered two servings of Pyeongyang mandu hot pot, one mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), and one mungbean pancake, and enjoyed a really generous spread haha 😄

The flavors are deep but not harsh, so it's a place anyone — young or old — would love haha. Here's my honest review of Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu!!!

Where is Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu in Paju, and is there parking?

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu is on the 1st floor of 129 Jimok-ro, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open daily 11:00–21:00, with a break from 14:30–17:00 and last order at 20:00, but there's no break time on weekends.

  • 📍Location: 1st floor, 129 Jimok-ro, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do
  • ⏰ Hours: Daily 11:00–21:00 (break 14:30–17:00 / last order 20:00), no break on weekends
  • 🚗 Parking: Plenty of dedicated parking in front (be sure to register your car at the counter before leaving!)

Now that it's September, it's definitely gotten a little cooler and the sun sets faster. We visited around 18:30! It was already getting dark.

Dedicated parking lot in front of the restaurant

There's a large dedicated parking lot in front, so no worries about parking. I could tell it was a good restaurant just from the parking lot — even though it was dinnertime, there are a lot of restaurants around here, but this lot was almost full haha. Inside, the place was already packed with diners, and lots of people were picking up takeout too!!

Kiosk ordering and the free-drink survey tip

Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu uses kiosk ordering, and there's also a paper menu available separately. We took a table near the entrance. There was a basic seasoning sauce and a simple tip on how to enjoy the food printed there 😄

If you scan the QR code and complete the customer survey, they give you one drink per table! It doesn't take long, so I'd recommend trying it!

Another handy tip!! Through the Naver review event, if you leave a receipt review, they give you a mungbean pancake. But it's first-come, first-served for 10 people! Good for people coming for lunch to try.

What we ordered and what it cost

  • Pyeongyang mandu hot pot (2 servings)
  • Pyeongyang mul-makguksu
  • Mungbean pancake

We wanted to try a variety of things that day, so we ordered two servings of Pyeongyang mandu hot pot, one mul-makguksu, and one mungbean pancake 😄

Mandu hot pot and side dishes served all at once

Everything we ordered came out at once haha. The first thing the kids dug into was the mungbean pancake, which had good reviews online haha.

How were the mungbean pancake and Pyeongyang mul-makguksu?

The ₩10,000 mungbean pancake came out golden-brown and fried, catching my attention the moment it hit the table with its savory smell 😆 It was crispy outside and moist inside — the classic 'crispy outside, soft inside' texture — and I didn't get a strong mungbean flavor, more of a soft, nutty richness! Made me crave makgeolli lol

Our second kid loves noodles so we ordered the mul-makguksu for her, and the noodles had a subtle spreading buckwheat aroma, but what really stood out was the mild yet savory, refreshing cold broth that cut right through the heat of the hot pot! Take a bite of mandu (dumpling), then a sip of the cool makguksu broth — it's an amazing combination 👍👍

Cooking the Pyeongyang mandu hot pot: order and taste

The Pyeongyang mandu hot pot (2 servings) is ₩28,000. You boil the broth first, then add the vegetables and beef shank suyuk (boiled brisket) first. The mandu comes pre-steamed, so you only need to add them in for 1–2 minutes before eating.

Once it starts bubbling, you naturally want to taste the broth first, right? The moment I scooped up a spoonful, I let out an involuntary 'ahh~' — it's so clean and mild!!! There's zero artificial MSG-like sharpness, just a deep, subtle savoriness from good ingredients that kept me going back for more with my spoon lol

And the real star here, the Pyeongyang mandu, was truly a work of art!! It's on a completely different level from the glass-noodle-heavy dumplings you usually see — inside the thin, soft mandu skin, the filling of tofu, fresh meat, and crunchy vegetables is packed to bursting! With so much tofu in there, the texture is incredibly soft, and I felt light in the stomach even after finishing it all haha.

The bubbling hot pot broth soaks right into the thin dumpling skin, so if you split a mandu in half and dip it moist in the broth, it's absolute heaven 👍 Pair it with vegetables like enoki mushroom and napa cabbage, dip it into the special soy sauce, and you'll get an addictive flavor that's not harsh but keeps you reaching for more!

Self-serve corner, baby chairs and microwave for families

You can grab extra basic side dishes and hot pot broth from the self-serve corner~ It was kept so neat and clean that I felt reassured about hygiene even while helping myself!

Next to the self-serve corner, there was also a baby chair and a microwave. Little ones sometimes need their baby food warmed up, and it reminded me of when our own kids were small — a thoughtful touch from the owner!

Knife-cut noodles added to the hot pot broth with a 5-minute hourglass

Finishing with knife-cut noodles and the 5-minute hourglass

Even if you're already full from the mandu and vegetables, there's one course you absolutely can't skip — the knife-cut noodle add-in! lol They drop chewy knife-cut noodles into the rich, deeply-flavored mandu hot pot broth and boil it up!! And cleverly, they even provide a 5-minute hourglass lol. Boil for 5 minutes, then wait 1 more minute before eating!

The noodles soak up all that rich broth, deeply infused with vegetable and mandu flavor from the long simmering, and it's honestly amazing lol. The broth isn't heavy and stays clean and refreshing to the last sip, and paired with chewy noodles with no raw flour smell and a spicy, salty piece of kimchi on the side, it's the perfect ending lol

We ate so well and got so full. And as always, here's the obligatory empty-bowl shot lol

The dessert zone the kids loved most

There's a dessert zone tucked in one corner of Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu! It's a space that both kids and adults would love, and it gave us one last bit of fun at the end lol. In particular, the richly brewed misugaru (roasted grain tea) was so, so rich and nutty that I refilled my cup several times — totally my kind of drink 🤎

And the kids got totally absorbed in using tongs to pick colorful, crunchy snacks into paper cups, chatting about which one was the tastiest lol. Everyone was already full, but the dessert corner brought out lots of laughter and made the meal end perfectly ❤️

We got to fully enjoy everything from a hearty, clean mandu hot pot to a unique side dish and a sweet dessert with the whole family at Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu!
