Spicy braised ribs found in Guwol-dong

I had something to do in Guwol-dong, so I made a trip there for the first time in ages. While looking for a good lunch spot, I found Haemokjeong, a great place for spicy galbijjim (braised short ribs)! They also had kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), spicy monkfish, and seafood hot pot besides spicy galbijjim. So I thought it would be a nice place to introduce for anyone craving seafood too~

Parking, then heading up to the second floor

I drove there and parked in the underground garage, which was really spacious and well laid out~ It looked easy enough even for a beginner driver!

Haemokjeong is on the second floor of the building~ Just take the elevator up. Once I got to the second floor, it was easy to find Haemokjeong too~ Straight in we went.

A restaurant busy even at weekday lunch

Even though it was weekday lunchtime, there were lots of diners inside~ It wasn't even the weekend, so seeing that many people made me even more curious about the food.

There were so many diners that I only photographed bits and pieces of the restaurant~ It was quite spacious and had plenty of seats! Along with four-person tables, there was central seating for larger groups, so it looked suitable for gatherings or work dinners too~ Lots of people were already seated there, so I couldn't get a photo of it.. haha

Ordering spicy braised ribs by tablet

Ordering was conveniently done through a tablet at each table. Along with the main dishes—seafood galbijjim, spicy galbijjim, seafood hot pot, steamed seafood, and spicy monkfish—there were set meals with kalguksu and fried squid, plus lunch specials for a quick midday meal~ I came to Haemokjeong Guwol Branch specifically because I wanted spicy galbijjim, so that is what I ordered.

Each table at Haemokjeong has two burners. It looked especially nice because you can use both when you order a set meal~

The side dishes, including miyeokguk (seaweed soup), were set out first. These side dishes were delicious~~ Their slight tang went so well with the spicy galbijjim!

Medium-spicy braised ribs that get hotter as you eat

My spicy galbijjim! It came with lots of big pieces of ribs, along with rice cakes, cabbage, mushrooms, onion, and minari (water parsley), so it was great to eat everything with the ribs~ I ordered the medium spice level. At first I thought the sauce might not be that spicy, but it got hotter and hotter as I ate, haha. Unless you really enjoy extreme heat, you can definitely feel plenty of spice in the medium spicy galbijjim! I recommend the medium level~

There were so many different things in it that it was fun picking out what to eat, haha. The rice cakes had soaked up the sauce well, so they were delicious too. Maybe because the ribs were aged, the meat wasn't tough at all and was so easy to eat.

Wrapping everything in the leafy greens with the side dishes was really delicious too. The side dishes paired wonderfully with the galbijjim, haha.

Finishing with snow cheese self-service fried rice

Once you've finished, you have to make fried rice in that delicious sauce~~ You can enjoy self-service fried rice with snow cheese for ₩5,000, haha. Stir-fry the rice nicely~ then gently sprinkle on the snow cheese at the end.

And there it is: delicious snow cheese fried rice complete! 🫶🤤 The sauce was wonderfully spicy, so the fried rice was even tastier~ The savory, stretchy cheese made it even more delicious! I finished the meal beautifully with fried rice~

Lastly, when you pay and head out, make sure to get your 2 hours of free parking, haha.
