Since I've been running lately, I've naturally gotten more interested in running shoes too. But recently, instead of shoes just for running, I've been drawn to hybrid shoes that can handle running, gym workouts, CrossFit and HYROX all in one pair.

Around that time I heard that a DARIMATI pop-up store had opened at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch, so I went to check it out. I was especially curious since it's the brand worn by CrossFit's No. 1 athlete Ha Su-hyun 👀 The pop-up is running on the 4th floor of U-PLEX at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch.

The DARIMATI pop-up store is at 20 Pangyoyeok-ro 146beon-gil, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, on the 4th floor of U-PLEX inside Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch. It's open 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM, and you can use the department store's underground parking — 1 hour free if you spend over ₩50,000.

Why a rowing machine sits at the DARIMATI pop-up entrance

We parked on B4 of the underground lot and took the escalator up — the main pop-up zone was right there, so it wasn't hard to find at all. But there was one thing that caught my eye from far away: a rowing machine 😂

At first I wondered why there was a rowing machine at a pop-up, but it turned out to be an event space set up by DARIMATI. It wasn't just a pop-up for browsing and buying shoes — you could actually work out and join events too, which made it more fun to explore than I expected.

DARIMATI started in the US and reportedly sold out repeatedly as a hybrid shoe brand, and this Hyundai Pangyo pop-up is apparently the first place to meet the brand in Korea. As more people get into HYROX and hybrid training these days, it seems like more people are also looking for shoes suited to that kind of workout. When I visited, there were indeed people who clearly work out trying the shoes on themselves.

How DARIMATI BR-001 feels on foot as a HYROX shoe

The product I was most curious about was the DARIMATI BR-001. The first thing I noticed putting it on was how it locked in my ankle.

HYROX isn't just running — it involves sled pushes, lunges, rowing and other repeated movements, so when choosing a shoe, grip and stability matter just as much as cushioning or running feel.

Especially in movements like pushing a sled, where you have to drive hard into the ground, if the shoe slips it's hard to transfer power properly.

I liked that I could not only walk around in the shoes but actually run in them to check the fit — there was little sense of my foot sliding around inside, and the ankle definitely felt securely held in place.

Especially thinking about HYROX-style workouts, where you run and then immediately move into another movement, that stability seemed pretty important. I got to try it on the rowing machine too, and having my foot held steady made moving around comfortable. Above all, I liked that BR-001 isn't just a running shoe but a hybrid shoe built with running, pushing and pulling movements in mind.

It turns out BR-001 can be used not just for HYROX but for indoor training like CrossFit, F45, and gym workouts too. It's especially interesting to know that CrossFit's No. 1 athlete Ha Su-hyun wears BR-001 — anyone looking for a stable shoe for training might find that appealing.

The pop-up also had information about HYBRID ATHLETE Lee Sang-hak, who placed 3rd at HYROX Incheon 2025 and has kept up a strong record across several competitions. After an ankle injury while wearing carbon-plated shoes this past January, he went looking for a shoe with both stability and rebound and ended up partnering with DARIMATI on product development — so this clearly wasn't designed as just a good-looking sneaker.

DARIMATI BR-001 sizing: why I chose 240 over 230

After going back and forth, I ended up buying the DARIMATI BR-001 in Gray, size 240. My usual size is 230. Honestly I was originally thinking 230, but the staff member checked my sizing carefully, so I ended up trying on both 230 and 240.

My feet are a little on the wide side, and I usually size up when wearing running shoes, so I actually ran in both and compared — 240 felt more comfortable. Being able to compare sizes and actually run in them on the spot before buying was one of the biggest advantages of the pop-up.

Sizing is always the biggest worry when buying shoes online, but trying them on in person made the decision so much easier. Color was the last thing I agonized over.

I went back and forth between gray and beige — beige was surprisingly pretty too, so I really thought it over 😂 But in the end I went with the gray, which I was drawn to more.

Seeing it in person, I liked that the color works not just for workout gear but for everyday wear too. And I heard BR-001's 270 and 280 sizes sold out both online and in-store, showing how much interest there is.

This pop-up is also introducing a new colorway, BR-001 CORE BLACK, which will launch up to size 300 — so the size range is expanding too.

Running accessories and the Han River bridge design motif

At the DARIMATI pop-up, there was more to see beyond running shoes — a range of running gear including caps, pocket running towels, running belts, shoe bags, and t-shirts. Once you start running, you tend to need these kinds of accessories one by one, so it was nice to see them all in one place. While looking around the space, I also noticed some fun design details on the products.

There were designs inspired by the Han River bridges, which was fun to look through. It was also cool to see familiar Seoul scenery like Yanghwa Bridge and Hannam Bridge worked into the product design.

The 30-second rowing machine challenge and lucky draw 🚣

And one thing at this pop-up not worth skipping is the 30-second rowing machine challenge. Follow DARIMATI's official Instagram, take on the rowing machine, and post your result to enter the lucky draw.

The target distance is 150m for men and 100m for women! You have to row all-out for exactly 30 seconds, which turned out to be harder than expected 😂 If you're into working out, it might bring out your competitive side a bit.

First look at the new VT-001 model and pre-orders

This pop-up also marked the first-ever reveal of DARIMATI's newest model, with pre-orders open. Alongside the new BR-001 CORE BLACK colorway, you can also see the follow-up model VT-001. VT-001 is a lace-up model said to emphasize an even lighter weight and improved fit. The brand plans to keep focusing on products for HYROX and hybrid sports going forward, so I'm curious what's coming next.

Final verdict: who is DARIMATI BR-001 right for? 📝

After visiting the DARIMATI pop-up in person, trying on BR-001 and buying a pair, what I was most satisfied with was being able to try it on and decide my size in person. Running shoes especially can feel quite different at the same size depending on foot width or shape, so comparing 230 and 240 and actually running in both made choosing so much easier.

BR-001 gave me a strong sense of ankle stability, and I liked that it's a hybrid shoe suited not just to running but to HYROX, CrossFit, gym training, and other workouts that require varied movement.
