Hapjeong brunch café with wide windows: Seowon Angil Hapjeong

In short

Seowon Angil Hapjeong is a two-story brunch café in Hapjeong, Mapo, Seoul. I had the creamy salmon poached egg Benedict and a decaf café latte, and especially loved the spacious layout and second-floor wall of windows. Verdict: a great fit for lingering over brunch or gathering with friends.

I visited Seowon Angil while looking for a café in Hapjeong where I could enjoy brunch. It was a lovely place to take my time over a brunch menu, and above all, I was impressed by how spacious and pleasant the space itself felt.

These days, when choosing a café, the food matters, but so does whether the space will still feel comfortable after sitting there for a long time, right?! With the café split between the first and second floors, it felt relaxed overall. The second floor in particular has a wall of windows, which gave it such a naturally open feel. I think it would also suit anyone looking for somewhere in Hapjeong to use as a gathering space, not just for brunch. 🤍

Seowon Angil is a great place to stop by when you want brunch in Hapjeong. Rather than a café where you simply have a quick coffee and leave, it had an atmosphere that made it easy to spend a little more time over brunch.

The spacing between tables and the overall sense of room never felt cramped, so I thought it would be nice for a visit with friends or a larger group. There seemed to be enough room to make it useful for chatting in a café, a casual meeting, or even a small work meeting.

It felt like the kind of place where you can come for brunch, then slowly spend time over a cup of coffee too. The interior was generally spacious and pleasant, so I could feel that sense of ease from the moment I walked in. When cafés are crowded, the tables can be so close together that you become conscious of the people beside you, but the generous space here created a relatively comfortable atmosphere for staying awhile.

And personally, I loved the second-floor wall of windows! 🍀 The openness coming in through the big windows made the space look even larger, and it felt less stuffy while sitting and spending time there.

Because the place itself is so spacious, it also looked suitable for group gatherings, meetings, or work sessions. Seowon Angil felt less like a café simply for coffee and more like a gathering space that works well for brunch and all kinds of occasions. And since it is dog-friendly, I think it would be great for anyone looking for a café to visit with their pet, too!

Creamy salmon poached egg Benedict

What caught my eye was that it was an open sandwich made with house-made sourdough bread. Instead of a typical sandwich with ingredients tucked between slices, it was an open sandwich, so you could see all the ingredients piled on top at a glance.

The combination of salmon and a poached egg on sourdough—with its clean flavor and satisfying chew—worked really well as a brunch menu.

The poached egg in particular added a soft texture that paired nicely with the bread. The creamy element and salmon went together naturally, and it was fun to feel the different textures mingle when I took a bite with everything in it. Personally, I love the open-sandwich style of piling ingredients onto warm bread, so it was sooo good haha.

Decaf café latte with brunch

Decaf café latte

I ordered a decaf café latte with brunch. It was a latte where smooth milk met the nutty flavor and gentle bitterness of espresso. The milk's nutty, clean taste blended naturally with the coffee, making it easy to drink, and it paired well with the brunch menu too.

Having it with a softly flavored brunch like the creamy salmon poached egg Benedict, the coffee's subtle bitterness also felt like it refreshed my palate.

Final thoughts on Seowon Angil Hapjeong brunch café

The spacious two-floor layout was impressive, and the second-floor wall of windows created an open atmosphere that never felt closed in. Hapjeong has so many cafés and good restaurants, but if you value not only the food but also a sense of space, I think this will feel especially appealing. If you are looking for an atmospheric brunch café in Hapjeong, I recommend Seowon Angil Hapjeong! 🍀
