Dakgangjeong at Amsa Market: Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch
I was craving dakgangjeong (sweet and savory fried chicken bites) so badly today that I headed to Amsa Market haha. Walking further into the market, I spotted a spot where a crowd of people had gathered. That was Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch! It's located at 21 Olympic-ro 98-gil, 1F Unit 105, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. Hope this review helps a lot of you ✨

Since the shop sits inside the market, the atmosphere around it was really lively. People kept coming and going, and lots of them were picking up chicken to take home. We went straight for a takeout order too 🤭 What we ordered was two medium dakgangjeong boxes! We picked one fried and one sauced.

Why Gimssi Chicken is an easy stop while browsing Amsa Market
Since Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch sits deep inside the market, it's better to browse the market too instead of just grabbing your chicken and leaving. There's lots of other food around and the market has that distinctive lively energy that makes wandering around fun. Especially on the way to pick up the order, seeing all the different stalls made me want to do some grocery shopping too haha.
And walking past Gimssi Chicken, I noticed an unusually energetic vibe?! Maybe because it's run by young people, there was this lively feeling to it!! So I stopped and started scanning the menu haha. The prices were reasonable too, and the chicken quality looked solid. Today's pick was dakgangjeong, but next time I want to try the fried chicken!!

What else is on the menu besides dakgangjeong?
Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch also has gizzards, drumsticks, and old-style whole fried chicken! If you're craving something more classically chicken-like instead of dakgangjeong, this is a guaranteed reason to come back haha. Being able to order just drumsticks to your heart's content.. that's a must~~!!

Dakgangjeong sizes at Gimssi Chicken: medium, large, extra large
Sizes come in three options like this: medium, large, and extra large. I ordered two mediums today! Packed it up and headed straight home~~

How much chicken and rice cake come in two medium boxes?
Opening up the takeout boxes, the portion was bigger than I expected, so I was satisfied! There was plenty of chicken packed in, and the rice cake sticks were generous too, making it a good amount to share with a few people. Ordering one fried and one sauced meant we could switch back and forth between the two flavors, which was great~ Starting out light with the fried, then grabbing a piece of the sauced one brought my appetite right back haha. If you can't decide between just one, I'd recommend ordering both flavors like I did!
The rice cake sticks were really plentiful. A lot of places only give you a few pieces of rice cake mixed into the dakgangjeong, but here they gave a generous amount, which I loved. With the chewy rice cake coated in sauce, I kept alternating bites with the chicken haha.

What the fried dakgangjeong tastes like
The fried dakgangjeong had that properly crispy, savory flavor. The batter wasn't too thick. Can you tell how generous the portion is from the photo~~?? Even just the medium size was enough to fill me up!! And with all that rice cake too, it was even better haha.

The verdict on Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch
For dakgangjeong, both the portion size and the taste matter, and Gimssi Chicken delivers on both counts. I especially liked the generous portion and the abundant rice cake, and ordering fried and sauced together let us pick and choose depending on our mood. Since it's inside the market, it's great for taking home and enjoying comfortably, and also worth stopping by while wandering around Amsa Market.
If you like dakgangjeong, it's worth stopping by when you visit Amsa Market 😊 Next time I go, I'll definitely order the sauced one again haha. That sweet, spicy sauce combined with the chewy rice cake kept me reaching for more. If you're looking for dakgangjeong in Amsa Market, I recommend Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch 🍗❤️
