Where Gwihan Jokbal Nowon Branch is and what the dining room is like

Here's Gwihan Jokbal Nowon Branch, a jokbal restaurant 68m from Nowon Station on Nowon Culture Street.

The standing sign out front showed off the jokbal and bossam, looking like it comes out as a full table spread — which got me even more excited.

Fitting the cool autumn weather, they had the windows near the entrance open, giving it an outdoor-terrace kind of feel — and the wide hall means it also works for group dinners. There were more seats over on the right, but it was full so I couldn't get a shot, unfortunately.

As soon as we sat down they brought us this pitch-black liquid — I thought, is this some kind of sauce!? — but it turned out to be a deep, rich heotgae-su (raisin tree tea). It tasted strong enough that it felt like it'd sober you up mid-dinner, which was a nice touch.
Gwihan Jokbal Nowon Branch menu and Bojok SET prices

They had all the classics you'd expect — Gwihan Jokbal, Gwihan Bossam, spicy fire jokbal — plus a whole lineup including half-and-half jokbal, the Bojok SET, and garlic jokbal.

There's also a takeout discount, so if you live nearby, ordering it to go and enjoying it piping hot at home sounds great too!

The free hwangtae haejangguk and side dish spread

A nice tray comes out set with all the essential side dishes for jokbal and bossam.

The hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup) was rich and spicy — the kind of deep flavor that makes you want a drink. The complimentary soup was so good I wanted a refill.

They also thoughtfully placed ssamjang (soybean paste dip) and garlic with salted shrimp in front of each of us individually, so we didn't have to share or reach across the table — a nice touch.
The small Bojok SET for two: how much meat and how did it taste?
Since we were eating for two, we ordered the small Bojok Set — and wow, it was really generous.

A hearty spread arrived with jokbal sliced from thick, meaty legs and two full rows of moist bossam.

Trying the jokbal first with just salted shrimp, the moist, warm meat melted softly in my mouth — genuinely delicious.

Being a wrap addict, I put jokbal and bossam together with a kimchi filling and wrapped it all up — the complex, hearty flavor of the wrap was even better.

The bossam also had a good ratio of fat to lean meat, moist and a perfect match with the salted shrimp.

Eating it with the spicy kimchi filling, it melted just as beautifully — really appealing.

The cola was ₩2,000, so I assumed we'd get a small can, but they brought out a full 500ml — such generous portions, and the cola gave us the energy to keep eating!
The complimentary fresh-fruit makguksu
At this point, a fresh-fruit makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) loaded with real fruit came out as a free side dish, mixed up deliciously.

Eating it alongside the jokbal and bossam, the sweet-tart flavor combined with the meat gave a satisfying, refreshing sense of fullness — truly a dish I could eat forever.

Whether paired with baechu kimchi or with the sweet-tart chive salad, the moist jokbal and bossam were a joy the whole way through — thanks for the meal, Gwihan Jokbal Nowon Branch!!!
