Pohang snow crab course at Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang

In short

Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a seafood restaurant in Jukdo Market, Pohang, Gyeongbuk. We ordered the two-person Bakdal snow crab set, with mulhoe, assorted sashimi, abalone sashimi, clam soup, spicy fish stew, and crab-shell innards fried rice. Verdict: the crab meat dipped in soy sauce from the marinated crab was the real winning bite.

My jaw dropped at the scale of the tanks outside! Seeing how cleanly they were maintained instantly made me trust the place. They were full of fresh seafood, so they were fun to look around too.

I scanned the big menu board on the wall too! There are lots of set options, so it looks easy to choose. The prices seemed reasonable as well, so you can enjoy it without feeling pressured 👍 The snow crabs moving around energetically in the tanks were huge and looked packed with meat, so my anticipation shot up! The owner said they pick out the good ones personally, so I was ready to trust them and feast 😋

There was also a big banner for Guryongpo gwamegi—half-dried Pacific saury! They said nationwide delivery is available too. When gwamegi season comes around, I’m ready to place an order immediately.

Two-person Bakdal snow crab set: a lavish spread from the banchan

We ordered the two-person Bakdal snow crab set, okay? 🤩 Look at the level of all those banchan (Korean side dishes) being laid out 👍 I already felt full somehow 😍

Bakdal snow crab set banchan spread

Tangy salad and seasoned vegetable side dishes 😋 They were just right for waking up the appetite 🌱 The owner’s cooking touch is no joke ✨

Salad and seasoned vegetable side dishes

Soy-marinated crab and corn cheese too—amazing 🧀 These are the original rice thieves 🍚 And the fried items were insanely crisp 🍤

Soy-marinated crab, corn cheese, and fried dishes

Look at that chilled mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup) packed with slushy ice 🧊 You know mulhoe is practically mandatory when you come to Pohang 🍜 It was sweet and tangy and went down so easily 🍺

Icy mulhoe and the set spread

It looks even more incredible in the full-table shot, right? 📸 “The table legs are about to buckle” is exactly it 🙌 Is this spread for this price even real? 😍 The hot abalone porridge filled my stomach nicely 🔥 Its nutty flavor lingered all around my mouth. Perfect as a pre-meal appetizer ✨ I scraped the bowl clean too 🐷 Even the basic side dishes were a cut above.

Mix the sweet-tangy, icy broth all together and it’s heaven 🥢 That savory depth distinctive to Pohang restaurants coats your tongue 🌊 This flavor blows the heat away in one go—it’s crazy 🔥 You have to scoop up heaps of raw fish with a spoon for the proper experience 😋 The crisp vegetables and chewy texture work ridiculously well together 👍 I ended up drinking the broth by the bowlful.

Mulhoe with raw fish and vegetables

Assorted sashimi, gizzard shad sashimi, and seafood banchan

Is it for real that they serve assorted sashimi as banchan?? A whole plate filled with fresh assorted sashimi!! Since it was gizzard shad season, the owner thoughtfully added some gizzard shad sashimi for us to try too—so touching 🥺 Their generosity overflowed, and the drinks went down way too easily 🍻

A plump, pearly slice of sashimi picked up neatly with chopsticks 🐟 Dip it in cho-gochujang (vinegared chili sauce) and the chew is no joke 🤩 It was utterly clean, without even a hint of fishiness. It was red sea bream, with the skin even torched—wow... amazing 👏 I loaded up one bite and it vanished as soon as it hit my mouth 🐷 The more I chewed, the sweeter it became 🤍

The moment I dipped the gizzard shad sashimi deeply into cho-gochujang, I couldn’t stop exclaiming. Autumn gizzard shad is wonderfully rich and nutty 🍂 I was moved by freshness worthy of a Jukdo Market restaurant 😭 This is the famous whelk and mushroom salad 🍄 Its springy-chewy texture kept my chopsticks moving. Apparently a customer the day before asked for three refills. I completely understand why—it’s such a special bite 👏

Abalone sashimi as a basic side dish—is that even real? 👏 That crisp, firm chew was a total work of art 😋 Picking up fresh sea squirt with all that ocean aroma. It’s pleasantly bitter at first, then sweet at the finish—my excitement was fully unleashed. The freshness was wild; it was like the ocean had entered my mouth 🧡 The basic clam soup, served hot to simmer, was incredible too 🍲 Spicy and refreshing, it made me feel completely restored. I kept marveling at the broth that practically calls for soju 🍶

Basic clam soup and whole steamed squid

Meaty Bakdal snow crab dipped in soy sauce from marinated crab

A cute whole steamed squid, glistening away 🦑 It was plump and chewy, with a seriously satisfying bite. Its nutty aroma hit my nose right away 👏 If you want the squid warm, dunk it into the broth 🤤 They told us to dip it into the clam soup like shabu-shabu, and it was delicious. It becomes much more moist and tender—golden tip.

The Bakdal snow crab made an overwhelmingly impressive entrance 🦀 It came with plump, perfectly cooked red shrimp too. The rich smell of steamed crab hit my nose all at once 🤤 The crab shells held an incredible pool of thick golden tomalley 👏 You could really smell that deep ocean aroma unique to Korean snow crab. Just a tiny taste of the innards felt like melting away 🤩

Even held in both hands, the claw was no joke in size 💥 Every shell had already been prepared, so it was so easy to eat. Thanks to the owner’s thoughtful knife cuts, the meat slid right out. Snap the shell and pearly claw meat pops out. The grain of that tightly packed flesh was art in itself. You could feel its springiness right through your fingertips 👏

Hold it with both hands and gently push back the shell—that’s it 👐 The meat was packed in without a gap, giving it a distinctive heft. You can completely stop worrying about meat yield with this quality 💯 Every split leg was crammed with meat, prompting one exclamation after another 😲 Since it was all opened up for eating, you just pick it up and pull it apart. The moist, pearly meat inside had my salivary glands working overtime 😋

Scrape with the dedicated fork and a mountain of crab meat appears. The way it pulled apart softly along the grain looked unreal. One spoonful of this and there’s nothing left to envy in the world 🤍

Bakdal snow crab meat in a palm

I put this insane lump of crab meat in my palm 🤲 Its sweet, salty savoriness filled my mouth. It really proved why this place has a name as a Pohang snow crab restaurant 🔥 And here comes the ultimate hidden tip and key move 💡 Dip the crab meat into the soy sauce from the soy-marinated crab and the umami explodes 🦀 The salty sauce and sweet meat together are absolute heaven 🤤

I picked every bit of meat from the body, corner to corner 🥢 Even with a quick push of the chopsticks, meat just kept coming out 👏 It was packed with such a great yield that the eating itself was so satisfying 😋

Spicy fish stew with perilla leaves and fish

Spicy fish stew and ₩2,000 crab-shell innards fried rice

Here’s the spicy fish stew all ready to bubble away. It had fragrant perilla leaves and a generous, large fish head. Even before the broth had developed, I could smell its deep flavor wafting up 🍲 The reduced spicy fish stew broth was warming and punchy 🍲 The fish had substantial meat on it too, so it looked easy to pick clean, right? It soothed my stomach and gave the meal a clean, satisfying finish 🤍

Crab-shell innards fried rice

Crab-innards fried rice piled up like a little mountain in the crab shell 🍚 Ask the owner for fried rice and they’ll make it like this for ₩2,000! The scent of seaweed flakes and nutty sesame oil hit my nose 👏 I was nearly knocked out by the generous portions worthy of a Pohang snow crab restaurant 😲

Innards fried rice with kimchi and shredded potatoes

Pair it with the kimchi and shredded potatoes that came as side dishes and it’s fantastic 🥔 Put a crisp piece of kimchi on the rich innards rice 🌶️ This combination keeps going down infinitely, even when you’re full 🐷 Scoop up a heaping spoonful, top it with crab meat, and take a bite 🥄 It’s the ultimate in nuttiness, and every chew brings another exclamation 🤩 Pohang Jukdo Market flavor!!

A short-eater piglet’s final verdict

The tanks were so clear and clean that the first impression passed immediately 🐟 There was none of the fishy smell you might expect from a market-alley sashimi restaurant; it was just fresh and pleasant. I had to cover my mouth when assorted sashimi and mulhoe arrived as basic banchan 😲 I was touched that they even included autumn gizzard shad and abalone sashimi as extrasㅠㅠ The pre-meal abalone porridge was loaded with innards and exploded with nutty flavor 🥣 The Bakdal snow crab was packed with meat, and its sweet flesh was pure heaven! Dipping picked crab meat into soy sauce from the soy-marinated crab was the true key move 💡 The crab-shell innards fried rice came filled high and hearty 🍚 Finishing totally satisfied after soothing my stomach with that fiery, peppery spicy fish stew broth 🔥
