Assorted seafood soy sauce set with mom on last day: Sokcho Geu Badaro

In short

Sokcho Geu Badaro is a Korean restaurant on Expo-ro in Sokcho serving seafood soy sauce sets (jang) with hot pot rice. On the last day of a trip with her mom, the writer ordered the assorted seafood jang with soy sauce crab, abalone jang, octopus jang, shrimp jang, salmon jang and egg jang alongside a steaming potato hot pot rice, with roasted seaweed wraps turning out to be the best bite of all. Even her picky-eating mom praised the shrimp jang, making it a satisfying meal to share with parents.

What's the most stressful part of traveling with your parents? Meals, definitely 😳

I could skip rice for a whole day and be totally fine, but when I travel with my mom I make a point of eating proper Korean rice meals with her at least once a day 💦

But it's not just about eating rice — it has to be real Korean food, and it has to actually taste good. That's probably the biggest worry when traveling with parents 🤔

That's how Sokcho Geu Badaro (속초 그 바다로), a hot pot rice spot in Sokcho, caught my eye. You can enjoy a full spread of soy sauce crab, salmon, octopus, abalone, shrimp, and egg jang — plus it comes with a steaming hot pot rice ❣️

I thought 'we have to go here' 🙊 and had it marked before the trip even started — we finally went on the last day!

Savory soy sauce crab packed with roe and innards, chewy octopus jang, springy abalone jang, silky salmon jang, shrimp jang with a satisfying pop that was exactly my taste, and creamy egg jang to dip everything into! Eating it all with the hot pot rice was pure bliss 😋 — let's get into Sokcho Geu Badaro!

Spacious, clean interior

Spacious, clean interior of Sokcho Geu Badaro

The exterior and interior look huge and spotless at first glance!

Jang purchase counter and waiting seats near the entrance

There's a jang purchase area near the entrance and a waiting area too, so even if it's fully booked you can sit comfortably while you wait 👍🏻

Dining hall with floor-to-ceiling windows letting in natural light

The view on the left isn't especially pretty, but the floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light, which was totally my style ❣️

Additional group seating area further inside

There's more seating further inside, which seems great for group reservations or family meals 👀

Table by the red brick wall with flower pots

We were seated at a table in the back, and doesn't the vibe kind of look like a photo studio? Soft-toned table and chairs, a red brick wall, and pots full of flowers — being in such a pretty spot already raised my expectations! ♥️

After much deliberation, we ordered the assorted seafood jang

Scallop or snow crab hot pot rice sounded good too, and so did the jang, so I really agonized over it — but there was no way I could skip the assorted seafood jang 😋❣️

Table set with potato hot pot rice and side dishes served first

The assorted seafood jang comes with potato hot pot rice included, so the rice and neat side dishes came out first!

And right beside it, the ridiculously good-looking assorted seafood jang 🦀🦐❣️

Wow, the colorful side dishes plus the jang really got my eyes darting around 👀

Assorted seafood jang with soy sauce crab, abalone jang and shrimp jang

Soy sauce crab packed with roe, a huge abalone jang, plump shrimp jang, octopus jang, salmon jang, and even egg jang — so much to eat!

Trying the jang one by one

First, the octopus jang and abalone jang were neatly cut into bite-sized pieces — ready to eat!

Honestly, just writing this post is making me remember the taste and I'm literally drooling 🤤💦

Personally, I also really loved the egg jang! 🥚

Dipping the jang into it like this made everything richer and nuttier — such a great match 🫶🏻

Popping a springy shrimp jang into my mouth, then a bite of hot pot rice — pure happiness 😚

The best combo: wrapped in seaweed

The best part was wrapping the jang in roasted seaweed!!!! This was truly the standout bite ♥️♥️♥️

Roasted seaweed wrap with rice and jang

The seaweed (gim, roasted sheet seaweed) was unseasoned but roasted crisp — you can dip it in soy sauce, but eating it with the jang instead of soy sauce gave it even more umami, which I loved 🥰

Putting the jang over the crispy rice at the bottom of the hot pot rice was also amazing ❣️

Seaweed soup served with the crispy rice from the hot pot
Jang placed over the crispy rice

I also scraped up every bit of the seaweed soup and the crispy rice that came with it, but there was just so much jang that we couldn't finish it all — such a regret 🥲 I still think about the jang we left behind… 🥲 haha

Overall thoughts on Sokcho Geu Badaro

My overall verdict on Sokcho Geu Badaro, a Sokcho food spot:

  • If you're looking for a great seafood restaurant in Sokcho
  • If you're looking for a hot pot rice and assorted seafood jang spot
  • If you want a different kind of Sokcho restaurant besides raw fish or snow crab
  • If you're looking for a place to bring your parents
  • If you want clean, filling Korean food while traveling Sokcho
  • If you're looking for a Sokcho restaurant with easy parking

I recommend Sokcho Geu Badaro ❣️ It's clean and delicious enough to bring your parents to, and if you're traveling Sokcho with them, a steaming hot pot rice with the assorted seafood jang makes a great choice!

Even my picky-eating mom said 'why is this shrimp jang so good?' and left fully satisfied ♥️ If you're heading to Sokcho, how about a filling hot pot rice with savory, rich assorted seafood jang?
